Just need some advice. Which of the two abilities should I get and will benefit me more: Poison or Weaken?

Both are essentials, if you ask me... best get weaken first, so you wont get beaten by the bosses and legendaries when they appear (randomly). After that you should get poison as well!

Weaken by far, it's useful for mini-bosses and bigger mobs, Poison is only useful for bosses. Still is good to have both.

Does difficulty influence loot? I want to know whether or not it mattered or not when I played First Blood on battletoads and got those phase shoes.

Yes difficulty, influences quality, but in the arenas, each challenge have his own special loot.
Take this not realistic example: 90% drop first blood are lesser, and 90% drop of EndGame are elixirs.

Edit: Type don't count as quality, I did tons of battletoads in first blood and didn't get any special gear.

Well, arenas and hourly do have an increased chance of equip/item drop, making it much more likely to get special gear drops from mobs.

Also, can I get a sense of the hp/shield/barrier ranges for difficulties? Wondering if I should try harder difficulties. Reckon it's going to be harder for 1/2hit mages though.

Boggyb cleared Sealed power in battletoads. It's not easy to deal with higher difficulties, not only a very good set of elementalist gear is necessary, but you'll need to use all the elements for killing faster.
X-magic also have a major importance.

I seem to recall that having staff or elemental proficiency will increase the chance of procing a status effect, giving faster kill times (via the elemental cycle). Is that true?

Edit: at what point do training ability points be less cost-effective than buying artifacts?

My current, all-Elemental gear set (including Staff) gives me an additional 104.68 to Elemental.

My first question is: In terms of one-shotting whole screens of mobs, is my current setup overkill or just right??

Following the first question: If that really is more Elemental than I really need to get the job done (at least for mobs), then in the rough guesstimation of you experienced Mages, how much of that Elemental Armor can I shed in favor of better protection and still get the same results?

Finally: For a guy armed and armored the way that I am right now -assuming that you think I'm just fine the way that I am -do you think that I should keep on using an Elemental Staff, or should I go to another one (which I'll have to purchase from someone like cmal, I don't have any others)?

If so, what type/prefix do you recommend??

(P.S: If you have a really good Staff of your own to offer and couldn't get rid of it until now, you can always show me what you've got -Money isn't a problem and maybe you and I could work something out.)

I don't know what affects the proc status effect chance, You'll kill faster by elemental cycle faster, because of the status effects see wiki.
Ex: cast thunderstorm, inferno, snowstorm, cyclone in this order to max out the damage.

IMO 50, it's when it past the cost of 2x artifact or 20k credits, after that it's better to buy an artifact itself.

I have 161 elemental prof + 140 from gear, plus my staff is destruction, and even so I can only clear rounds in 1 shot very occasionally, first because of resists (I have ~94% acc after bonus) , and 2nd because of lower hits, my question now is how the hell you have an overkill setup? Show your stuff, and ratings please.

Depends, if you only play normal difficulty, and you can can clear a round in 1 shot using 4 pieces, put the 5th with protection.

If it get the job done, you don't need it.

If you only pretend power like I am, destruction or elementalist, if not use focus or even use oak staffs for the protection path.

Go buy a Katana.

They are pound-for-pound the strongest 2H weapon you can get, and while other 2H types are better than a Katana in any given single area, no other Weapon has the overall set of advantages as a Katana -they hit almost as hard as an Estoc, they are almost as accurate as a Longsword, and they have higher Bleed Damages than almost everything out there with the exception of the very best Axes.

Look for the very best Katana you can find in the shops (cmal and I each have at least one for sale, and I'm pretty sure that virtually every other merchant on the WTS page does, too), save up if you have to, and pay the extra money.

And if your 2H Proficiency is high enough -you determine what 'high enough' means for yourself -go get a Wakizashi for your offhand, but not before.

You can't be serious... a Katana have the same stats like a longsword, except acc were it's the katana who have more.
If you're interested in 2H, use a longsword or katana depending on what's the best you find, just it.

Lol I will be the only one that used that staff then, like usual people overrates ET, you don't use ET it while grinding because there's no monster alive to take advantage of, except the occasional boss, but I didn't have a problem in raising my MP with it, and the reason is simple 20% is the same as getting ET each 5 hits, and I can have 5 hits once CM is proc'ed.
