I was just wondering how anybody is meant to survive as a mage. I've been thinking about changing, since this new update broke two handed, but I'm just getting killed in a few turns. Any advice?

Are you using a mace?

2-hand isnt broken, it simply received new skill chain. You can still blow monsters away with Tier 2, Render Blow. As for mage, you need: Shadow Veil, Spark of Life, Haste, and Cure I/II. Those spells help a lot in IWBTH rounds.

I suppose, but I relied on the stun. I can still kill things, I'm just using a lot of potions than I was. And I can't defeat 10 monsters anymore. Also, I have those spells. QUOTE(MidNightPass @ May 7 2012, 21:17) Please upload your stats and info of your weapon.

It is essential to get your 2H proficiency above 100, so you can hit 9 mobs at one go. Also, mace works better with light armor than heavy. Get some decent shades (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Mage isn't recommended then? I thought it was the best type to use.

You have to make that decision for yourself. They are very different.

Well I was just wondering how to survive as a mage. Presumably the trick is to make the enemies miss, instead of trying to protect yourself?

Quick question, new patch rustled my jimmies for FSM. I used to just lay down Silence, Poison, and Nerf on FSM before whacking away with my 2H Mace. But curse-weaving is making Silence miss and if I miss casting Silence a lot, I'm gonna have a bad time since I don't have Spark of Life on.
What's the new preference of deprecating spells for FSM? I haven't tried it, but I'm guessing it's Weaken and Silence? Since curse-weaving kicks in at 2 deps, Nerf is crappier than Weaken, and Poison is broken like Regen was?

Get the new spell. Weaken is great too, use silence before you have spirit shield.

@Mizuho The trick is to kill everything before your get hit. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) If you're thinking of starting as a mage though I'd recommend you get your staff and cloth prof up a bit first. Just get a priestess/owl/evade gear and go into a crude IWBTH item world. Cast regen, start whacking away at the monsters, Re-cast regen when needed, then resume whacking once more. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) That oak staff you have at the moment should be fine for training your prof. Weak attacks = More hits on monster = More prof gained. However I recommend you get a better one for when you are actually fighting properly.

both melee and mage need good equip and prof to survive putting your chance on miss alone is no good, you would still take a lot of damage when a hit connect and waste more mana to heal. you need to blast enemies as fast as possible as mages, afaik half done equip & prof won't help that. also raising those prof consume a lot of time I'd rather suggest you to raise 2h prof (as midnightdust suggested above) and reach lv170 to get heatseeker, it should be easier after that.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll think it over a bit. I didn't know about heatseeker, which sounds nice

Heartseeker is a must for melee player. Cast it while you are channeled.

[attachmentid=13958]
Not sure what to get after my reset. I gave up Spark of Life because I mainly use Silence on FSM. I usually just play on Normal, so it's only use was for FSM and pals. I gave up on Nerf because the new patch made Weaken much better. I also gave up on Poison because it's now broken like Regen was. Even if it gets fixed, curse-weaving forces me to only have 2 deprecating spells (Silence and Weaken) or chug mana potions to cast 3 or more at a time and risk miss casting Silence one too many times. So with the 15 extra points, I put 8 into the last 3 spirit tanks and 5 overcharge boosts I hadn't filled. 7 more ability points left. Help me decide!
