20% multiplicatively. So you use it with light armor (or heavy armor with a ton of featherweight shards).
It's not that they don't work together, its more light armor being hard to play, especially at lower levels. And as some people already pointed out, using a mace with light armor really helps with survivability thanks to the stun.
Also, if you play melee, you pretty much have to use 2H at some point. 1H and DW just kill large numbers of monsters really slowly compared to 2H. They do have their uses though, and give you slightly more survivability (but again, if your against a large number of monsters, 2H lets you kill them much faster so your actually more survivable).
Heavy armor is superior to light armor though imo.

I see. I'll change to heavy armor then.
I think the reason I chose to use light is that in the past, if i remember correctly, burden slow your action speed down :/.
Thx for the advice!

@Veince
Use mace if you want to emphasis survivability. Upgrade your armor help as well, but it's not exactly a simple procedure...
I don't know whether you'll understand this, but basically shadow veil decrease your chance to not evade incoming attack by 20%

I wouldn't know but from what I heard, it did. Light armor had a real speed advantage. Now the speed advantage it has is from the agi stat boost.

Yeah, burden used to directly lower action speed which made heavy armor much more disadvantageous. Now that it only effects evade (and you can get more "evade" by using shield armor with "block" until your prof goes up (which lowers your burden)), heavy armor is more popular. Sorry if that was confusing (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

QUOTE(buktore @ Apr 12 2012, 10:46) I'e read a lot that you should cast Shadow veil when using Light and not Heavy. Why is that? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Shadow veil work just fine with Heavy. 20% Evade ain't bad, ya know... (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Maybe because it's multiplicative? If you already have good evade, the effect will be much better. And naturally light means more evade than heavy.

Cause you get more interference from heavy. Given the choice between protection and shadow veil with heavy armor, you'd probably be better off with protection.

That's debatable; if one has to 'choose', it's depends on the player current stats.
But there're no such restriction in the game; you can always cast both if the player want at the cost of more mana consumption, and it (SV) will faithfully do what it supposed to do regardless of whether your armor is Light or Heavy. This is not the same as Protection, where the amount of mitigation gained are base on the mitigation from your armor.

The advice is generally for lower leveled players though. Certainty you can cast both, especially with IA. But for lower leveled players with no IA and no knowledge, advising them to use protection with heavy is the right choice IMO.
You didn't ask whether I should cast protection or SV with heavy, but why it is advised to do so. *shrugs*

From the look of it, SV might actually be better than Protection for low level Heavy player Let's take this for example: QUOTE(xdgfsdf @ Apr 9 2012, 17:28) Without buff / Buff (Protection, SV) 36% / 41.76% Physical Mit (actually, this number is not accurate, since it include mit from something else apart from just armor, but whatever... just think of it as a rough estimate) 27.47% / 41.97% Overall Physical Avoidance (if the monster attack actually connected) I'm not quite exactly sure what's better; too lazy to calculate + don't have enough data, anyway... (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) PS. I hope my math are correct... PS2. Fix some numbers. Meh... I suck at this! This post has been edited by buktore: Apr 12 2012, 07:22

Basically it's because you've three supportive spells to choose from: protetion, haste, shadow veil. If you choose 1-2 spells only for your playing style, which one gives the best effect? Mage: haste, shadow. No debate. Light melee: shadow veil + haste. Still no debate. Heavy melee (stun): protection + haste Heavy melee (bleed): protection + shadow veil
Shadow veil still works fine for heavy melees using stun. The problem is that you have to choose which spell is more mana-efficient (and logical!) at lower levels, when you don't have enough mana to keep all of them.
@buktore I don't know, but when I tried to train my melee prof. (DW), putting protection in PA is a bit better than putting SV in PA, and I couldn't find a definite reason for that. On paper protection would like in almost every circumstances, but still it works better in practice.
---------------------------------------------------
As for the debate between scythe/mace, it's merely your playing style. Both have some advantages/disadvantages, and you can pick the one you like. That's it.

QUOTE(Unknown Enigma @ Apr 12 2012, 12:16) I need help sorting my Primary Attributes because I know I'm doing it wrong.
I personally don't think that putting points evenly on every stat is wrong until you reach a certain level and knowing what you'll be doing in the future. You can also reset 10 stat points daily if you need to. if you have decided on, this advice can be helpful http://ehwiki.org/wiki/User_talk:Varst#Primary_Attributes

How much is your evade / block / parry / Mit when you do this? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) The overall performance is hugely base on these numbers (and situation), so yeah, thing might not be the same among different level. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) One thing for certain, though, is that the higher Mit you have, the stronger Protection spell. While SV performance remains constant regardless of stats. At the moment, with shade, I found SV and PA have a different feel to it but somewhat equaled in overall performance. I cast whatever spell whenever I feel like it. True Story. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) Haste is a must though... [ oi43.tinypic.com] http://oi43.tinypic.com/e9dnip.jpgThere's nothing wrong with keeping your Primary Attributes even at lower levels. Your character page is a bit strange though: Your proficiencies indicate that you are a mage, yet you have 357 base physical damage to only 110 base magic damage. What is your fighting style? Did you just switch to melee? QUOTE(Chogy @ Apr 11 2012, 22:33) I need some advise about LV.220 Arena.
