Yeah, that has been my strategy so far. It takes roughly 3-4 casts of Storm of Njord to kill most enemies, not resistant to Wind, that I target directly. I'm not sure if that's normal or indicative of my damage output being too low for IWBTH. EoD 1-49 is slow but manageable because you only face three enemies per round, but against more enemies (~5+) it becomes really difficult at keeping up with the damage I am taking because I'm not killing before being killed, like on lower difficulties.
I think it took me 30 minutes back when I first started doing those at 200(?). If you're "weak" for your level, then it'll take longer. I was almost *always* weak for my level until recently (profs finally caught up)
IWBTH is way too big a pain tackling beyond a few monsters. Most of the time you're relying on your evade since they hit so hard. Right now with the 10 monster hourly random IWBTH's those things knock my spark/knock me critical almost every turn. So I'm basically going banish/cure/pestil/cure/banish/cure/etc.
I would save saplings for cloth and spend the noodles on staves once your leveling slows down
