friggo just dropped this level 456 Legendary Shocking Rapier of Slaughter and it turns out to have a convenient adb to compare with this level 452 Legendary Arctic Rapier of Slaughter that was trashed earlier.

Scremaz, a question I have been holding back for some time is: are the base rolls we see in the built-in equipment popups exact, or backward calculated and imperfect?

The shocking rapier pops up 44.27 adb while the arctic rapier pops up 44.26 adb, just 0.01 damage different. I was under the impression from the wiki formulas here that the true base damage values must occur in increments of 0.08524 (base multiplier/fluctuation column and formulas). In other words, the shocking and arctic rapiers should either have the exact same adb, or different by about 0.08.

If my understandings of these obscure/arcane formulas are correct, then this suggests the built-in equipment popups are backward calculated and may exhibit rounding error.

Takanashi, I suggest you take a look at ST-Ru's free equipment rental in WTS. Borrow the Legendary Plate Leggings and Legendary Plate Sabatons. I used those exact ones from level 240 to 300. After that, try to get a slightly better weapon, and make it IW10. After this you will be like invincible for a while (because of your centerpiece amazing armor) and will surely clear anything on pfudor.

I didn't saw any legendary plate legging or legendary plate sabatons which is free / for my level range in that thread...

Also, just as you, I own no soulfused equipment, and did not want to soulfuse. I just showed him my rapier. I think if you show him your legendary power armor it's good enough.

Those are plate armors (and are fine for someone of your level). He is talking about this kind of armor. Power armors have attack damage and accuracy, crit chance and damage

Actually at his level i still mean both when i write power armor. But maybe i should stop meaning and start writing it.

Just try to drop magnificent armor, they aren't that rare, and don't be afraid to use leather or plate instead of shade and power. Use the best quality armors you drop.

Try to use Spark of Life as much as possible. You are at a level where you should be heavily relying on it. Why did you upgrade spirit if you didn't upgrade Spark of Life, your only good use for it? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Spark of life is that useful? isn't it only taken into effect for instant kill? I usually dead b/c of a number of damage not because the attack has a certain instant death effect.

It's absolutely okay to chug draughts and use regen, just preferably not actual potions.
Silence stops spirit attacks, but the only way to reliably deal with spirit attacks is spark of life (which you absolutely want on innate arcana, because it doesn't cost extra mana to recast when it's popped) or spirit shield.
You're going to want deprecating abilities, mainly weaken and silence, which pretty much completely nullify enemies. Pretty useful against bosses.

Yeah, as someone who was just there, dual wield with rapier of slaughter/wakizashi of the nimble has better damage and survivability in light (wakizashi of the nimble will give more parry than the block you get from a shield, has an AOE attack too). Rapier is generally necessary for the best offensive ability, since it has penetrated armor. You can also use rapier offhand and axe of slaughter mainhand for more damage, if survivability isn't a problem.
1h is a heavy armor style that doesn't synergize with evasion, since you want to block and parry to counter attacks, rather than evade them (with 1h, you go heavy and don't use shadow veil at all). 1h heavy has bad resist/magic mitigation, so I wouldn't recommend it until you get silence for multiple enemies, or spirit shield. Against a low number of low difficulty enemies, haste and attack speed can also limit how much you can use your spirit stance if you aren't getting enough counterattacks.

Also note that when you're switching to new things, low proficiency might make them less effective at first.

Thank you for the detailed explanation, I think I went kinda wrong with 1H+light+shield, I thought it will act like warrior build in most RPG (balanced build), I used dual before but got my butt kicked fast so I stick to shield (mainly due the shield bash and vital strike combo is awesome).

You need to choose. Heavy armor for 1H or light armor for 2H, Dual Wielding or Niten. All of them have their good and bad points (I like all of them (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) )

I think I'll stick to 1H + Shield for now, and maybe into Dual later on.. Dual is better than niten wasn't it? (read in wiki that Niten generally for pre-100 and over-300 for challenge), the only problem might be with armor, I to used with light armor.

The thing you'll mainly want to focus on is figuring out a "style." What you put in your hands for weapon(s) is part of it, and what you wear to protect yourself/boost your damage is the other part. Shade (light) and Power (heavy) armors give less defensive value in exchange for boosting offense more than leather (light) and plate (heavy). Light armor is good for "speedy" builds due to raising agility for evasion and attack speed, while heavy armor gives more mitigation.

A lot of advice says "do whatever" at your level. I used 2H+light armor (favoring shade for damage boosts). I have since switched over to 1H+heavy (favoring power armor) for now. Some day I'll maybe start playing as a mage. This game makes it pretty easy to switch over. There are reasons why some weapon styles work better with some armor types, but the difference isn't too important while low level. Higher levels will accumulate better gear with bigger stat differences, and need to specialize in certain ways to eek out more power. .

You can change but for various reasons you'll tend to be weaker for a while after doing so. One of the criticisms I have with the latest proficiency patch is that it may lock you into a style somewhat, at least more than the old system did. You can probably keep 2 styles proficient with the current patch, but if you go jack-of-all-trades you'll be sacrificing potential.

Spark of Life stops you from dying on the turn you die, whether it was from one giant blow, many little hits, or many giant blows. It's not easy to use, but you should give it a try. And upgrade it, everyone does. Also try the Scroll of Life version, it's better, but you shouldn't rely on scrolls to survive at your level.

Someone bought it. I still had an old window open, so I tried to buy it out of curiosity, and it said System Message - Item has already been sold. I wonder what would happen if I used the same trick to buy an item after it gets deleted? I know deleted items hang around in limbo for some time after they disappear from the store.

Yeah, my question is basically this:
Is effective attack speed equal to
1-(1-att.spd)(1-haste.modifier) (most likely)
1-(1+att.spd)*(1+haste.modifier) (less likely)
or att.spd+haste.modifier (unlikely)

if i have to pick, i'd say something close to the first. but i don't remember whether Haste was mentioned to run in a separate roll (like Shadow Veil) or not...
also, note that Action Speed affects mages as well.

What kind of thing determines how fast your turns/second are? Ping? Download speed? Upload speed?

i have the suspect some of them artificially pump their playing speed, but that should be easily discernable by looking the speed of the cursor.
either way, i bet on last mile problems on connection - which can be pretty much everything. situation improved overall with 0.85 patch and its new Ajax-based way of loading rounds (or whatever it is), but somepony experienced the opposite.

afaik the prefix is generated first, which implies a range of values the stat can assume (*)
then, stat rolls happen, and they are rounded at a certain point to percentiles because - according to another mod - "admin likes them" [semicit. from IRC]
at that point you have your rolls on popup. then, level scaling happen.

(*) this is quite important, and it's one of the reasons because 0.82+ items are overall better than 0.81- ones

try incognito mode from your browser and use only scripts what you real need!
also no add-blocker and maybe just use one browser only for playing hv.
