1H Heavy is good for high end players that don't want to pay attention, many opt for mage after level 400, but you can find some players that play rapier+shield and power of protection set so you don't even get sparked
mages need input to play (healing and imperiling) but 1H players take way more turns to finish rounds/arenas

1h is literally the braindead easiest way to survive for any level.
You should be able to clear most if not every content using 1h unless you screwed it so bad.
heavy is more offensive variant than light, speeding it up a little bit.

1H heavy + shield is the only thing usable at high level when we're talking about melee combat.
