One-handed melee, especially on higher difficulties, relies on counter-attacks a lot and since Evade does not trigger a counter-attack (however it saves you from the attack, so it is not completely useless, especially for novice players) - you lose an opportunity to deal an extra damage, recover overcharge bar, etc, etc.
