I may be wrong, but I think Stamina does regenerate while in battle.
The new Stamina is added only after you are done with whatever it is you were doing (Arena/Grindfest/Item World/etc), though.
It becomes more evident once you have access to Arenas that take a long time to complete (End of Days and beyond).

Shouldn't say that here, but now I remember some discussion about stamina regenerated during arenas. (and arenas only, since I don't notice that for completed IW)
Anyone who has played EOD with just enough stamina to complete that should have noticed.
There's a way to test it, unfortunately I have played those necessary arenas today. I will post my results when I have time to do that.

More precisely, stamina is not regenerated; when you finish the arena you will be given amount of stamina equal to time used in that arena.
Right now I'm not sure if it will also be given if you run away. I will also test it tomorrow.

That's interesting considering Tenboro made special effort to note that
QUOTE(Tenboro) *
Stamina is restored at a base rate of 20 per day. Note that like the vital stats, stamina does NOT regenerate while in a battle.

I guess since Arenas are the only things still limited these days it makes sense to give them a little exemption.

Are you sure this is the time spent doing the whole arena and not the last round ? This has been discussed before, but natural regeneration happens on the last round of IW/Arena (as well as one round battles such as hourlies and RoB challenges), so it should include stamina as well.

Tried that in my last EoD 'run' since stamina dropped a couple rounds before round 50. Running away mid-battle doesn't give you any stamina back. (Nor anything else for that matter, as expected.)

Running away on the last round after spending 4320+ seconds in it with less than 99 stamina will always give a point back if natural regeneration happens as soon as the round starts and not when it is cleared. And if it does, it's most likely a bug... or an undocumented feature. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

This is my observation:

I always start EOD when my stamina hits 85. I checked it so often that it should start less than 85.1.
Then I need half an hour to finish EOD, with 1-2 minutes on the last round.
If natural regeneration happens only in the last round, then I have less than 80.1 stamina and will drop below 80 stamina after I have entered a few rounds of antoher arena IW.
But it's not the case: somehow when I start almost immediately another arena/IW, I can have some 8-10 rounds of great stamina before I hit the 80 stamina mark.

This probably means that time spent of arenas are recorded, and stamina given back only at the last round.

Interesting. 1800 seconds would be 5/12 stamina or 8 1/3 rounds in great status, so that matches it.

Sushi would probably be able to confirm this considering how much time he spent in IWBTH Dragon Fandango.

Do arenas give any advantage by being longer?
For example, Growing Storm, Apocalypse Soon, Power Flux and Killzone all give 1000c in clear bonus, after the first-time bonus.
But they are 25, 30, 35 and 40 rounds each. Do those added rounds give any additional benefit for loot drops or enhance the arena drop bonus at the end?
Or do you get the same arena drop bonus from First Blood and Baby Steps as you get from the longer ones?

And do you get better drops the further into an arena you go, or is that limited to grindfests?

Higher arenas have a higher loot quality bonus. 0.2.2 release notes :
QUOTE
They start with the second arena challenge, but they don't scale very fast until you start getting into the real ones. Graduation has +100, then they increase by about +50 for each level.

DwD should give about 1500 if the numbers are up-to-date and the growth remains linear. (Obviously didn't exist back then.)

Also a higher drop chance:
QUOTE(Tenboro @ May 15 2011, 11:05) *
- The equipment drop chance bonus for the Arena clear bonus has been increased. The new probabilities are as such:
-- base+10% for the first five
-- base+25% for New Beginning through Killzone
-- base+50% for Endgame through Eve of Death
-- base+100% (always) for Trio and above

I tried my experiment on whether arenas will reimburse stamina if you finish it.
Here is how I do that, and should be easy enough for others to try:

1. Play until your stamina drops just below 80.
2. Enter arena 'baby steps' (2 rounds arena) immediately, before your stamina goes above 80 again.
3. Wait at the first round for at least 1.5 hours, which should be enough for more than 1 stamina regenerated while not in a battle.
4. Finish the arena. You should observe that your stamina jumps to 81 now.

Conclusions:
1. Stamina is indeed reimbursed if you finish a battle. As Mika has pointed out, you won't get anything if you run away mid-battle, of course.
2. It doesn't matter how long you stayed at each round; only the total amount of time counts.

What affects chance to block with a shield?

I assume the biggest thing is the block chance on the shield of course.
And then block chance bonuses from shield armor.
And finally a block chance bonus from 1-H proficiency.

But are there any other bonuses?
Do the shield spell give any bonus to block?
Are there any bonuses from stats, like there is for parry and evade?

In what order does damage avoidance count?
For melee attacks, block, evade and parry all apply, but does it do block and parry first (which gives a chance for counter-attack) or does it do evade first (no counter-attack).
Assume 50% block, 0% parry and 20% evade, raw numbers.
Does that mean that attacks that hit will result in 50% of them blocked, 10% evaded and 40% hit, or will it be 20% evaded, 40% blocked and 40% hit?
And where would parry come in, if that also had a value higher than 0%?

And same for magical attacks, where resist come in instead of parry. In what order do these happen?

Since for a 1-H user the most beneficial would be that block is counted first, then parry/resist and evasion last, for the best chance for counter-attacks.

I got a quick question, I think I know the obvious answer but just want to make sure; If you reset your ability points, you don't lose the points you've gotten from artifacts, right?

Correct.

Cool, thanks.

I got 2 more questions:

1) Does Shadow Veil increases your chances of avoiding getting hit by Spirit Attacks?

2) Does Shadow Veil Scroll + Shadow Veil magic stack? Same with other spells such as barrier, haste etc.

Supportive spell scroll versions all stack, though they have slightly different buff effects than the spell versions. In the case of Absorb/Spark of Life the scroll buff is consumed first.

just wondering, what's the use of supportive proficiency now since most support spells give a fixed amount of bonus already

proficiency determines their duration.

More proficiency means they last longer.

Cheers again mate.

Something else that I thought about after reading these forums a bit:
Is there any bonus or something other to the "hourly encounters"? They're the same as random encounters, right? I turned them off in the settings because they were just annoying and seemed useless, but from reading many posts in the forum I get the impression that they carry some form of reward or bonus?

Is stamina subtracted when you start a round, or when you finish it?
If you die in a round, or flee, will it still cost you stamina the same as if you had won it?
