durrrr I meant endgame....
I just did twisted plots with my staff, ended up using a greater mana draught since I didn't bring anything smaller, but if I had managed mana a little better probably wouldn't have needed an item for that either. Normally I need 1 godly health pot, or an average mana draught, depending on second winds.

Question about Ether Theft:
Do you get MP automatically each turn (of the monster) that the proc is active (similar to how Spreading Poison works), or you have to beat out MP each turn during the proc is active (similar to how Breached Defence works) like candies from a pinata?

You just have to get it proc'd, it drains on its own after (it's like poison). And, in fact, ether theft has always drained at the end of a monster's turn, so if you kill them, you don't drain mana that turn (always bugged me). This post has been edited by DemonEyesBob: Oct 21 2009, 03:21

Thanks for the info.
I should really save up so that I might be able to buy a good staff with Ether Theft when it appears in the shop.

Ya the drain at the end of the turn is a pain always love it when it goes hit proc, hit dead... no mana gained, mostly cause you hit the button too fast sometimes.

I honestly think you're more likely to get one by putting all your trophies into staffs at the shrine for a while. I'm pretty sure that's how I got mine. Well, now that I realized I was overcasting by... a lot... I cut my item usage in half (for both my usual spellsword and for staff). I still don't really feel like I'm playing a mage when I use a staff though, I used offensive spells maybe twice.
Blows when you accidentally kill a thefted target D:

Just did longest Journey with my staff needed 1 greater mana draught, basically seems like the higher arenas are doable as a caster, but your still mainly swinging your staff for ether theft and Coalesced Mana. Overall it feels much slower but I don't have all that many spells to work with so it might be better for a true mage. It might be nice if ether theft and coalesced mana would be able to proc on spell casts,

What do you mean overcasting? QUOTE(EvolutionKing @ Oct 20 2009, 22:34) Just got Mithra's Flower via Ring of Blood. That -> Staff w/ 1 turn 20% proc Ether Theft.
Congrats? There was so little emotion in that post I can't tell if you're happy you got something with ether theft or sad that it isn't better. Use a smiley once in a while :P Also, 1 turn isn't really 1 turn. It steals on the turn it procs, and steals for one turn after (so two turns for 1, three turns for two, etc.). I couldn't really make an informed decision whether or not it was a good staff yet, because of different stats increased and decreased. But seeing the current results in Cakefest so far, I'm happy now. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sorry question... does armour proficiency increases mitigation/amount of damage absorbed?

slightly. Proficiencies for weapons and armors increase related equipment stats by 0.1% per point and decrease burden by 0.25% per point. 100 proficiency in 1 handed weapons will increase the stats of 1 handers by 10% and decrease the burden and interference by 25% read and be informed https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?showtopic=21824

Holy crap, that really is, "slightly", indeed. I guess I'll never be able to get away with not upgrading my armour... Thanks!

You folks who are Mages:
Those Ability Trees that increase your Magic Rating by 2% (the ones that you can only get AFTER you max out an elemental spell):
1. Did you folks find them to be very useful in the long run, just so-so in terms of helping you out with dealing out Magic DMG, or were they essentially useless??
2. Do those Ratings do anything significant to increase your defensive capabilities against any given Element that you put the Ability Points into....or do they only affect your offensive magic capabilities??

you get half of your elemental rating in damage reduction. 10% holy will reduce holy damage taken by 5%.
They're ... about the same as overcharge for melee characters as far as damage goes. They boost it, but it's not something you'll see a dramatic improvement on from 5 ap.

Marcho answered the mechanical question, so I'll give my impression of the utility.
I waited until the 2nd-tier elementals to get the ratings boost, mainly since I knew Inferno would get replaced by Meteor. Any damage reduction is nice, but the 10% damage boost is fantastic. Getting that extra 65-70 points of damage means a lot more one-hit kills rather than one spell, one staff hit.
