So I was nearing the end of an Item World and...um...is it normal for someone of my current level of 36 to run into MANBEARPIG?! I hardly did any damage at all and then in comes Global Warming. Ugh, so much experience points lost.

Yea it happens, but the one you fought was probably much weaker than one you would fight in the arena. Monster strength in IW is modified by the item's quality and the number of levels you have already beaten.

I was at level 25 out of 26. And that was the WEAK version?! Then again, I was on Heroic difficulty. What's a good difficulty recommendation for my level? I'm using a rapier and specialize in cloth armor and I want to gain levels a little faster.

It's a rare drop, but usually comes from Arena bonuses.

Arenas are much more predictable. Adjust your difficulty level until you are comfortable with it there first since the arena is the toughest place for you for now. Also keep your stamina above 80.

1 for the first, 2 for the second, 3 for the third and so on open only as many slots as you want create monsters that you're actually going to level. the tokens might be usefull at a later time, when tenboro implements new things. so don't waste them all for renaming, deleting monsters or open unneeded slots. Is the +7% EXP bonus for the color auras per rank or a once-off bonus?

You use a rapier and cloth? That does not mix. Cloth is for casters, it gives little interference and bonus to int and wisdom (altho the latter may be nice for melees) and has suffixes that aids primarily casters. Either go with light armor, if you want to go melee without stuff to hinder you (and shade armor if you wanna play it real light, minimum burden and high evasion/resist and gives melee accuracy and damage bonuses), or go with mage and then use a staff instead, which boosts your magic and has a chance to steal mana from your enemies when used in conjunction with spells.

QUOTE(dido @ Aug 30 2011, 18:39) also what is luck of the draw too means Does what it says on the tin. Additive 1% increase to your loot quality bonus. (25% increase when maxed, if you ever max it.) It will slightly increase your average loot quality at lower difficulties, so you can at least expect to get less Crudes. This post has been edited by Mika Kurogane: Sep 1 2011, 14:11

How does magical and physical damage and absorb/mitigation work?
Does it have any relation at all to the types of damge, or just the type of attack?
Meaning the standard attack uses your attack rating and bonus physical damage, hit and crit rates, and compares it to targets shield rating and their physical absorb mitigation, no matter what the type of damage actually is?
And that all special attacks counts as magic attacks in the same manner, again, no matter their actual damage?
And that specific damage mitigation to certain types of damage is then added after this initial mitigation that depends on the type of attack, not the type of damage?
Take giants for example. They do crushing damage with their standard attack. Nothing weird there, easy to figure out. Physical mitigation + crushing mitigation. But their special attack also does crushing damage. Does this get mitigation from physical mitigation or magical mitigation, before it goes to the specific crushing mitigation?
And same thing, in reverse, for scary ghosts and elementals, that deals void or fire/cold/wind as damage on their normal attack?

Every ability or attack is either Physical or Magical (all basic attacks are Physical I imagine) and is mitigated by the respective mitigation stat. On top of that every ability or attack has an element which includes Crushing, Slashing, Piercing, and Void in addition to the expected Fire, Ice, Wind, Elec, Holy, Dark, and Soul. AFAIK, no ability has more than one element (no Crushing Fire abilities) and no ability has no element (that's what Void is for). There are plenty of monsters (especially bosses and higher) with physical abilities that have elemental damage types. I don't know if there are any magical abilities which have crushing/piercing/slashing damage types, but probably not. I'd imagine the damage formula for, say, a physical attack of crushing element looks something like (raw_damage) * (1 - physical_mitigation/100) * (1 - crushing_mitigation/100).

Yes, but what I was wondering is what attacks are magical and which are physical. So the damage type does not decide if it is magical or physical. And standard attacks are physical. And skills can be physical or magical, and can have either damage type, making it impossible to know if they are doing a physical or magical attack?
