QUOTE(PK678353 @ May 19 2011, 22:24) Is Accuracy the only thing that determines whether you hit or not, or do monsters have some innate Evade/Resist chance as well? Accuracy is the only factor. If your character sheet says 100%, you'll always hit. QUOTE(PK678353 @ May 19 2011, 22:24) Also, given the constant interference rebalances with every patch let me see if I've got this right: No more direct penalty to damage spells, but you lose 0.75% of your profs for every point above 25. Equipment proficiencies no longer reduce equipment interference, so there's no way to reduce interference except to go find lighter gear. Sounds right. QUOTE(PK678353 @ May 19 2011, 22:24) Edit: Do we know how exactly Magic Rating affects spell damage? I can't find anything, not even old stuff, in the wiki (though I know what stats go into it); it would be useful for figuring the relative boosts from Fox, Owl and Elementalist pieces (though I suspect Elementalist wins hands down at my level).
No, we don't. I believe there's some knowledge out there (I don't remember what the actual result is) about how higher Magic Rating is either better or worse than direct damage bonuses against monsters with higher Barrier Rating (Legendaries and gods). But otherwise, we have no idea how Magic Rating fits into the damage formulas, as far as I know. This post has been edited by coredumperror: May 20 2011, 17:26

No. It's a bit of a mystery. What I did find out is that increasing my magic rating by (say) 10% boosts my spell damage by a rather larger amount, and that boost is bigger the tougher the enemy is. I posted some info here, not that it will help you very much.

YMMV. My Fox suit was more effective against the Gods while other folks like hito and Conquest found their element suits more effective.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Feb 26 2011, 18:44) It really is, but I'm afraid to tinker with it. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I no longer feel bad for having no idea how the two interact. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

(IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) As someone who has asked more HV questions of Tenboro than pretty much anyone (and actually gotten a number of answers I might add), you can't take anything he says too literally. He answers off the top of his head, and a question like this would require checking the code and is likely too complicated to really answer without vomiting code onto the forum.

I wouldn't mind it if Tenboro vomited some code onto the forum. And then I would point and laugh before picking through the little bits of corn and Cheetos.

um i have two questions. first off should i go physical or magic? im seeing most high rank players are magic and im reading how aoe magic can kill off mobs faster. i am atm physical dual wielding and its getting hard when i have 5+ mobs attacking me, and my int and wis atm are low while my str and end are high.
second if i get max scavenger does that mean i will get items everytime i kill something or just increases the chance ill get something to some kind of percentage?
lastly is it better to do grindfest or item world? i want to lvl my scavenger and other item drop rate skills, but item world doesnt give credit while grindfest does. should i lvl up first then go kill in grindfest for credit, as well as higher arena or do mostly grindfest to get both exp and credit? also does higher lvl mob = more credit drop and if so can someone give an example?

as to magic vs melee, magic isnt very good early on. I didnt switch until level 100+. I'd stick to melee for now.
scavenger will increase the chance to find items, you will have double the base chance to find an item at max rank, not 100%. Say the base chance is 5%, now you have a 10% chance. It;s also obscenely expensive to max most training skills so...
always do your arenas, but after than, item world in superior+ items for exp, grindfest for credits. Depends if you prefer to level faster or have a higher credit inflow.

QUOTE(varst @ May 17 2011, 15:38) Now something to ask on overcharge.
Seems overcharge is boosting the physical damage output by 1% for every 2% of overcharge. But when talking about physical damage, is that the base one or including all ADM you can get from weapons?
Just saw this... maybe I'm too late, but I'll answer it anyway... OC is basically a Proficiency for melee attacks, pretty much the same as element/divine/forbidden/etc for spell damage I believe. As far as I know, you can use magic damage formula to calculate melee damage as well. Just ignore elemental damage bonus/rating/whatever, and replace MDM with ADM and Prof with OC.

Thanks a lot for the information. Actually not too late, seems everyone's forgotten my question and go on (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) I will try to verify that by using my staff (yea basically i'm a mage, just want to know more about melee (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) At this moment we know the OC factor is about (1+OC/300)

I believe the formula is = Original Damage Roll * (1+ADM/100) * (1+OC/200)

According to what Tenboro said the OC factor is 1+OC/300, but i'm not sure if there's any more translation factor in between.

Tried doing a search in this thread but couldn't find much. Infusion descriptions are pretty clear now in game so I'm ok with the resist/+dmg/+spell dmg stuff but what I'm curious about is, how do infusions interact with ethereal weapons?
For example: Say monster has 50% resistance to Soul and -50% resistance (weakness) to Fire
If I use infusion of flames, would an ethereal weapon deal the same damage as a "normal" weapon in this scenario? (I'm assuming that 50% resist actually stops half of the ethereal damage coming at the monster) Or would the "ethereal" property cause the resists to cancel out. In short:
Ethereal Weapon + Infusion of flame vs 50% soul/-50% fire = 100% dmg or 150% dmg? (ignoring the innate damage bonus from infusions of course)
Thanks ^^

Question. It seem that I indeed do more damage to mobs with Nerf + PA compared to just PA alone... Now I'm curious how Nerf works. Its decrease stats by xx% or by a fixed amount? Does Deprec prof has something to do with it? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Thanks!

If I recall correctly, Nerf reduces the target's Ratings directly. So Magic Rating, Attack Rating, Shield Rating, and Barrier rating go down, making them take more damage and deal less. I have no idea how Nerf interacts with Deprecating prof, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets better with more prof (like Blind does), in addition to lasting longer.

Sorry for the double post, but I want to ask an unrelated question:
Do we know the proc chance on Channeling? It's not on the wiki, as far I can tell.
