I wonder why elemental mage with imperil aims 0.68 prof factor.

As far as I know, higher prof makes higher counter-resist (if prof factor < 1)

Why they don't aim higher prof factor? Is over 0.68 prof factor useless?

Thanks for reply (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For imperiled monsters 0.68 is the same as 1.0 is for non-imperiled mosters. Higher has some use, for when you miss an imperil then you can choose to brute-force that monster without imperil.

You should not mixup these three type of armor.

Why not?

I see older posts in the "Asked The Experts" archive were high-level players are advocating that very thing. Have the rules changed so much that this is now a bad idea?

I ask because as a mage, I'm wearing almost exclusively cloth armour. However, I came across a Superior Shade Helmet of the Arcanist. It has no Burden, very low Interference, and buffs both my Intelligence and Wisdom. It doesn't add to any damage or proficiency for any spell type, but in all other ways, it outshines all the cotton caps I've come across.

Why should I eschew this in favour of a cotton cap that benefits me less? Is there something I'm missing?

You know about abilities, right? Even if you use ability points for cloth armor, and you slot the abilities for cloth armor, you don't get the abilities bonus unless you use only cloth armor.

Yes, I've tried.
No, it doesn't work, with your Staff you can only make little Damage.

Ah! That's what I was missing. At this point (I'm only level 143), the trade-offs were close enough that I didn't catch them.

With my cloth abilities and my proficiency, switching to an all-cloth armour scheme gives me about 60 more MP's, and slightly higher spell hit (118.5% --> 125.2%) and crit (15.1% --> 18.7%) chances. My base spell damage is also higher (917 -->946), which is important for a mage!

Sticking with the Shade Helmet makes my staff do more damage (1085 --> 1145), my physical mitigation is slightly better (33.5% --> 34.6%), and my resistance goes up (27.5% --> 30.2%); but these are all specific properties of the helmet not tied to my abilities, so they're to be expected.

As I gain in cloth armour proficiency, it should close the gaps in some pretty important areas.

If it is cloth and not valuable, then salvage always if magnificent or legendary. High-grade cloth is expensive.
For wood (shield, staff), alsmost always salvage magnificent or legendary.

Easyest way to get this right is using HV-Utils script. You put in the price of High-Grade wood / cloth /metal and the script optimizes for max credits.

And i would also suggest to salvage everything that is average or below. I mean i can use them yourself and there is allways someone who will buy the scraps for more money as the equipment bring you money in the bazaar.

Cloth
Scrap Cloth = 90c (with perk) in bazaar
Low-Grade Cloth = useless
Mig-Grade Cloth = 350~400c in WTS forum
High-Grade Cloth = 13~15k in WTS forum
Energy Cell = 180c (with perk) in bazaar

Crude Cloth:
salvage for 2 scraps

Fair Cloth:
salvage for 2 scraps

Average Cloth:
price < 181 = salvage for 2 scraps
180 < price < 201 = bazaar
200 < price < 271 = salvage for 3 scraps
price > 270 = bazaar

Average Phase:
salvage for 2-5 scraps and 2-5 energy cells

Superior Cloth:
bazaar

Exquisite Cloth:
price < 491 = salvage for Mid-Grade Cloth and 1 scrap
price > 490 = bazaar

Superior/Exquisite Phase:
bazaar

Magnificent Cloth/Phase:
non-prof suffix = salvage for High-Grade Cloth
level too high = salvage for High-Grade Cloth
missed INT or WIS PAB = salvage for High-Grade Cloth

Legendary Cloth:
non-prof suffix = salvage for High-Grade Cloth

Magnificent/Legendary/Peerless prof-suffix or Phase:

Quick question: If I have a piece of non-upgraded equipment sent for IW service to IW10, can I still upgrade it (e.g. increasing evade chance level, resist chance level, etc.) after it has reached its maximum potency tier?

Upgrading something and doing a fully IW are two completly different things and the only connection between those two is that upgrading gives you PXP, which will just be completly irrelevant when you have allready done the IW of that equipment.

So, my current training levels for the loot/reward system are:

Scavenger: 45 out of 50
Luck of the Draw: 19 out of 25
Quartermaster: 17 out of 20
Archaeologist: 7 out of 10

Is there any incentive for me to max out all of these training levels? Or should I max out only particular ones?

Only if you have credits and dont have any other investments to make. Because you have allready reached a lvl of training where they take quite a bit to pay off. But if i were you, i would go full Arch first.
