This is the thread for discussion of my auctions. For a while, most discussion had been going on in the Ask the Experts thread where I usually hang out, but I figured it was time to create a dedicated topic more suited to the purpose. Feel free to make post suggestions, complaints, comments, or anything remotely related to auctions in general. The more feedback, the better - this is all for you guys, after all. Please send items individually so the unsold or subpar items can be returned. To send mails quickly, I recommend using HV ToolboxFor a general technical explanation of how the auctions work, see [ reasoningtheory.net] this link. Weekly auctions end on Saturdays at 14:00 UTC. The "%" stats listed next to equipments is their Legendary percentile, which is how far between Lmin and Lmax the stat is, taken directly from the wiki. Example and discussionIf you want me to auction an item for you:- No auction fees for sellers
- The minimum starting bid is 50k, your item should have a good chance of someone bidding at least 50k
- If an item isn't 100% guaranteed to sell, please send it in its own separate MoogleMail so that it can be returned easily if it's not worth listing or goes unsold
- Don't know if something is worth auctioning or not? Scroll down, or use SmartSearch, or post in Ask the Experts or ask me
If you want a particular minimum bid other than 50k, please include "start" somewhere in the MM content to make sure I see it. - Send items any time you want, no need to wait for the current auction to end - it doesn't create any problems.
- If you send items while a current auction is in progress, I much prefer to wait until next week's to list it, but it can be added to the current auction if necessary
- No need to include the equipment link, since I generate them directly from the attachment's HTML
- Don't recall items after they've been listed in a live auction.
Regarding gear types I might return: (You can always ask me to try to list it anyway, I might be willing) A quick way to check to see if an equipment is worth something is to use my SmartSearch script on WTS, with Include (Auction) checked, to see how much similar pieces have gone for in the past. If something doesn't get a minimum bid of 50k after being listed, don't send it again. Exception: Peerless are, of course, exempt from all rules below. They can always be auctioned. Unassigned equipment from 0.81 and before is unlikely to be worth bidding on in most cases. Materials/SpecialBindings worth less than 1k aren't worth auctioning EDB bindings (barely worth 1k, usually) need to be in packs of 100+ to be auctioned Low-grade mats need to be in packs of at least 1k for a good chance of getting bid on 1hRapiers are best. Legendary is required, except for rapiers below level 400. Clubs and Axes must be Slaughter, and they must be either under level 350 or Ethereal. Melee weapons without prefixes or with useless suffixes (Vampire, Illithid, Banshee) are unauctionable. Most wakizashis and shortswords are unlikely to auction unless Ethereal, Hallowed, or Demonic. 2hLegendary is required. 2h weapons must be Slaughter, and they must be either under level 400, or Ethereal, or Katana. Melee weapons with useless suffixes (Vampire, Illithid, Banshee) are unauctionable. StaffMost staffs must have good prefix, matching type, and good suffix. Staffs over level 370 must be Legendary or they most likely won't get minimum bid. ShieldMust be Legendary, or under level 350. Bucklers must be Barrier or Battlecaster, or they won't get minimum bid. Kite shields won't get minimum bid. ClothCloth must be Phase or have elemental/holy/dark proficiency suffix, or it is unauctionable. The only Magnificent cloth allowed is (Radiant Phase + Under level 450), or (Good prefix + Under level 370 + 3 PAB). High level plain-prefixed cloth needs good EDB or proficiency, or it won't get minimum bid. (Level 450+ cloth with plain prefix needs 90%+ EDB or prof) LightLegendary and lower Leather: Too unlikely to get minimum bid unless Reinforced Protection Shade Negation needs to be Legendary and Savage, otherwise it's very unlikely to get minimum bid Shade Fleet needs to be under level 400, or it needs to be Savage Magnificent Shade is very unlikely to get minimum bid HeavyLegendary Plate: Only has a chance of getting minimum bid if it's Shielding of Protection or Dampening Magnificent Power needs to be under level 330, or it needs to be Slaughter and under 450. Power Balance/Warding/Protection over level 400 likely will not sell unless it's also Savage or has extremely high ADB. ------ Lower-level gear can sometimes be lowish quality, but higher-level gear should be high quality. If I return something and you want to know why or you really want me to try to auction it anyway, feel free to message me. Note that auctions generally attract discerning and higher level players. Lower quality items that might not make the 50k minimum bid might be better posted in a shop, which lower level, less discerning, and more shy players are more likely to visit. ----------------------------------------------- "All posted bids should be in credits (or "Start" = starting bid) and must immediately follow the item code or codes." Explanation: In my automatically-updating auctions, bids must be formatted properly for the bid to be read correctly. Examples of good bids:QUOTE Hea01 1000k (best) QUOTE Hea01 1m (best) QUOTE [Hea01] 1000k QUOTE Hea01 1m QUOTE Hea01 1000000 QUOTE Hea01 1,000,000 QUOTE Hea01 1000000c QUOTE I want Hea01 1m QUOTE hea01 1m (the above are all equivalent) QUOTE Hea01 Hea02 Hea03 100k QUOTE [Hea01] [Hea02] [Hea03] 100k QUOTE [Hea01][Hea02][Hea03] 100k QUOTE Hea01 Hea02 Hea03 100k (the above are all equivalent) QUOTE Hea01 start QUOTE Hea01 Hea02 start (the above are good as well) Examples of bad bids:QUOTE Hea01 1000000z "z" means nothing. Only use "k" = 1000, "m" = 1,000,000, "c" = 1, or nothing at all QUOTE Hea01 I will pay 100k There should be nothing between the item code Hea01 and the bid amount 100kThere is a very small list of common exceptions which are allowed but discouraged: 'all', 'every', 'and', 'bid', '[', ']', '(', ')', '{', '}', '-', ':', '\n' - These are all removed from your post before I check for valid bids. QUOTE Hea01 bid 100k => Hea01 100k QUOTE Hea01 and Hea02, bid 100k => Hea01 Hea02 100k (both valid, but not good) This post has been edited by Superlatanium: Mar 19 2020, 12:19

Update automatically for the next 60 minutes",并接着勾选"Alert when the following user gets outbid& quot;,在该选项后输入自己的用户名并回车,如果成功将会显示你现在出价领先的物品总数量,之后如果有人对这些

"One05 I will bid 400k" は 無効.

Naughty list:edu5ardo - Sending an item to auction, waiting for it to be bid on, then intentionally taking it back and salvaging / buying back to make it untradable c4f1234 - Bidding on multiple items and then not accepting themhentai_fusion - Bidding a large amount on an item and then not accepting itIDKfromS.K - Bidding on multiple items and not accepting themShould the minimum bid increments be changed?See posts in Ask the Experts: QUOTE(mozilla browser @ Jun 12 2016, 07:38) I think the 10% bid increments were useful in the past to make auction tracking manageable. But with auction tracking now largely automated, that reason no longer exists. It could also be the big reason to push bidders into placing proxy bids. IMO, the current scheme could even be reversed - 10% bid increments for items where the current bid is low, and 50k increments beyond the threshold. QUOTE(nec1986 @ Jun 12 2016, 12:51) As i already said 20m-->22m-->25m-->28m-->31m is something very common. Player can think "20m was ok, but 25m is already quite high price" and just leave that item. At the same time after 22m he could bid 23m and maybe even 25m in courage. Its absolutely different story. Just look at gap between 22m and 28m. Its huge and when person doing 22m bid it doesnt mean he ready to increase up to 28m in single step. QUOTE(Rhydin @ Jun 12 2016, 14:04) I second this idea, for the most part. Going with 50k increments for all bids <1m allows for more flexibilty, and I am positive such a change is very much justified...
Personally I believe the best way to go would be fixed increments for different bid ranges, like:
50k - 1m: 50k increment 1m - 5m: 100k (maybe more?) increment 5m - 10m: 500k increment >10m: 1m increment
This would allow more flexibilty in lower bid regions, encouriging more bids and possibly better revenues for sellers. Fixed increments should also decrease the number of invalid bids ( 500k --> 550k --> 600k isn't that uncoomon, but 600k is an invalid bid right now) QUOTE(LOL50015 @ Jun 12 2016, 14:15) No more bursting out the calculator to figure out how the next few bids will play out. QUOTE(mozilla browser @ Jun 12 2016, 15:02) - auctioneer doesn't care because it is automated - bidders are choosing to bid with minimum increment. They can always choose to big with larger increment if they want to do so manually or even with +10% increments which would have no change from today. Or they can activate proxy bid if they don't want to stick around. - eventual sale price might be higher or lower than today, so sellers should not see much difference. In your example, if the bidders are not willing to go to 22m, at least the price might have reached 20.7m after 14 outbids. Or the price may even go beyond the price with +10% increments because of the heat of bidding and the small hurdle of just 50k credits more. Feel free to add your 2 cents. My musings: Now that I've been thinking about it for a bit, I'm really curious - what would an auction with virtually no minimum bid increment look like? (like a flat +50k, or less if the current bid is small) Right now, once the current bid starts getting close to reasonable market price, I think most everyone habitually bids near exactly +10%, or roundup(+10%) to an even number. Almost no one bids significantly more, unless they're rich and don't care. But would people habitually bid only the minimum increment, generally? I think not, I hope not, but I think a few might, which could get annoying. Regardless, bidders would think about how much they want to increase the bid on an item, rather than feeling fenced in by the 10%. ("+10% is already a lot, higher than that is silly, a lower bid is not allowed") Also, with a small bid increment, players will be more able to prolong the item's auction time during the last 15 minutes, without significantly raising the current bid. Previously, the effectiveness of so-called "snipers" was a bit restricted because the bid amount would rise exponentially; their last-minute bid attempt would necessarily result in a notably higher required bid. With a low minimum bid increment, I would quite dislike it if someone comes out on top during a bid war in the first couple days of the auction, the item goes untouched, and then in the last 15 minutes someone else bids +50k and takes it. One can say (1) "The other guy should've been online at the end" or (2) "the other guy should've used a proxy bid", but (1) is an annoying requirement for an auction to have, and a number of people will not do (2) because they don't understand it, or don't know English well enough to interpret it, or don't trust it. If this sort of thing becomes the new rule, hopefully few would exploit it like that. But most people who care are online at the end of an auction anyway. So it might be an annoyance, but it's bearable. This post has been edited by Superlatanium: Sep 3 2018, 00:38

I would suggest lowering the minimum increment to 5% for the next auction and see how it goes. Drastically changing how it works can possibly bring a lot of new issues, halving the increments should be minor enough to prevent annoyances like having to rebid 1000 times to get an item (for those who don't use proxy bid).
Also I think manual bid still have a place, for example they can be used for bluffing (like directly putting the max bid when you think it can go higher in a bid war, in the hope of scaring away the other potential bidders). It would be good to think of a system where both type of bidding can still be used.

lol I used to do this and it never ever works. Throw down a lump sum right off the bet doesn't make it any more intimidating than making small increments. People will just bid like normal in both situations.

Well, there's no real way to measure its effectiveness But......I've been at the receiving end and I simply felt nothing. And.....it's not like I ever got anything for cheap when using this strategy Also, the other bids will drown out your posts so people won't know if that amount was reached through 1 bid or many bids. Talking about gimmicks, has anyone tried this: Bid on something you don't want or have no money to pay for it, just to jack up the price because you just want to watch that other person pay more (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif)

Before going into detailed discussion on auction mechanics and the like, I'd actually like to take a step back and ask what started this whole thing. Have there been any complaints about the current system?
I know I already offered some opinion on the matter in the experts' discussion thread, but at the same time I cannot ignore that the current system with live bid updates and proxy service is rather comfortable as is. Looking at the last auction with a total of 460 replies one cannot deny that it is a significant improvement over manual auctions, both for bidders and the auctioneer.
As for the bid increment issue, could we maybe get some statistics on (final) bid distribution? Arguing over increments for >10m items might be quite the non-issue, if that only concers maybe less than 5% of all bids. On the other hand, I am assuming quite a number of items reach final prices around ~1m and the like, so this might be worth a closer look. But I'd still like to see some numbers here if possible, simply to shift the attention towards the right place.

I don't see any flaw in the actual system. Don't want to raise ten times? Proxy bids. Raises are too high? If you're interested you raise anyway, if you don't, just leave the item to the other person. Starting bid is too high? Item unsold, and the problem is for the seller only. I don't really get it (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

I want a simple bid command to manually outbid on an item so I dont have to calc what is 10% more everytime (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) For example "One01 bid++" or "One01 +10%" something like that.

This is interesting, and it's far from impossible. The bid system already recognizes an invalid bid, so it means that it already calculates the bids. A simple "raise" or "bid+" command that recalls automatically that bid it's only a next step (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I like the idea given by Rhydin.
Since most items are sold for up to 1m, I think even going from 50k to 50k, the final value is reached quickly. In addition, it facilitates the users to have the bids without having to make accounts with values more "rounded", and therefore less subject to error [(550k > 600k > 650k) is simpler than (550k > 605k > 665.5k)].
The 10% rule could still valid for higher values (up to 10m).

Why not using automatic proxy bidding then? It's free, it's fast and it's automatic. You just need to get the bidkey from Super, go to the bid site, login, set your maximum bid and the system will automatic proxy bid up to the maximum you set.

So you can change your max bid anytime instantly? Seems good (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) I just want a manual way so I can bail out anytime I want while raising the price (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

What I was wondering: Should we remove the label that a bid was a proxy bid? I know this is a happy place where everybody loves each other (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif) but lets say someone (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif) wants to make you pay more and bid you up, it's very probably that your first proxy bid isn't your max.

And if it is? (I would put high proxy bid in the last day only, better to keep a low price at first) But anyway, why both you and LOL50015 have so little faith on the other HV users (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)
