QUOTE(Nezu @ Oct 23 2023, 16:04) *

Mage play is just - debuff things, then cast the highest available damaging spell for your element.

But the equipment strategy is important and not quick to explain & I wrote that guide for that reason! Can you comment on the terms that aren't clear & need an introduction?

The staff you won unfortunately doesn't really play to the strengths of any particular element, specifically with that staff, I would say no, it will probably not be faster than 1H.

I think the main area that I can't glean any info about is the relative importance and power of various strategies and suggestions.

Like, for example, if I have a non-matching prefix for a staff, or incorrect proficiencies, or fewer shade pieces, roughly how suboptimal is that, really? 90%? 60%? Not-worth-playing-at-all%? Assuming that you have not yet gathered a full correct set, what is a good place to start, if it's worth doing at all?

In isekai I once got a non-matching peerless staff, Fiery Oak of the Earth-walker. I later switched to a matching magnificent (I think it was arctic redwood of destruction) and did noticeably better. So for a staff, matching is by far the most important. Even exquisite will do if it has a matching prefix, wood type, and suffix.

For cloth, you need a mix of cotton prof and phase of your element. Any other cloth will do very little for you. Don't worry about the prefixes yet, just suffixes. Ideally, the prof pieces should get you to or close to 0.79 prof factor (or 1.0 for holy/dark, not recommended to start with at your level), but if you're just starting out, your base prof will go up quickly so don't worry too much about hitting 0.79 exactly or else you'll be constantly swapping out gear. Proficiency is one of the things you'll want to forge as high as you can in order to fit in more phase for damage. Don't worry about forging phase yet.

Early mage play (starting at level 310) is best suited for clearing SG arenas quickly (80 rounds and up). You'll want to bring scrolls for DWD. Other content will be very difficult without dropping difficulty, so keep your melee set or go 1H mage there. (1h mage is terribly slow for SG arenas.) At the moment in isekai (level 339), my mediocre mage set (4 mag 2 exq) is only slightly faster in SG arenas with a lot more healing than my very good melee set. So if you're happy and doing well with melee, you won't be missing out on much yet, but mage gets more and more attractive with more levels and more available usable equipment. At level 400 I'd strongly recommend playing mage because you'll be able to soulfuse level 500 equipment, of which there is a lot available to buy. But when exactly to switch to mage is a matter of taste.

Helpful advice, thanks.

I use debuffs extensively when playing melee as well and have a lot of trouble with monster resist. Is there any source of resist mitigation (or strategy for minimizing debuffs bouncing) other than using a staff?

Other than a staff (which may have native counter-resist and can get the penetrator potency from IW), your deprecating proficiency factor will add counter-resist to your debuffs (using the same formula as for offensive spells).

What should I do in order to survive in Dwd with a light set? Focus on which stat to increase? Evade, damage mitigation? Kill the mobs before focusing on the school girl(s)? Use sleep if there's too many mobs (>4)?

Aether shard will reduce the chance of monsters evading your debuffs, making your spells more likely to be effective.

What fighting style? For forging, block on your shield and parry on your weapon(s) are ridiculously good for boosting defense. Consider starting the later rounds with OFC to thin out the monsters. Sleep/weaken are good debuff options too. And yes, killing the mobs first helps with staying alive. After that, evade, dex, and end are good, cheap, defensive forge upgrades. Also forge damage on your (main) weapon.

How does the "syntax" of that [shift+hover = imperil -> toggle hover] keybinding look like?

I'd love to do something similar to this, but I don't seem to find a way to get "togglehover" to work.

I currently imperil with numbers, so my ideal scenario would be starting with hover off and adding togglehover to the same number.

For reference I imperil this way:

CODE
Bind(KEY_1, Any, Strongest([TargetMonster(1), Cast('Imperil')]));
Bind(KEY_2, Any, Strongest([TargetMonster(4), Cast('Imperil')]));
Bind(KEY_3, Any, Strongest([TargetMonster(7), Cast('Imperil')]));

Set your shift hover action (not in keybindings) to:
CODE
Strongest([ToggleHover, Cast('Imperil')])

There's probably a way to do it with a bind command, but I don't know how to get that to work.

You can bind a key to toggle hover like this:
CODE
Bind(KEY_Z, Any, ToggleHover);

With this, I start each round with shift held down, then mouse over monsters and tap z to imperil. Once I'm done imperiling, I let go of shift and tap z once more to hover normally.

I don't know what I did wrong before, but this worked. Thanks

Coincidentally, messing around with your options figured that I could keep imperiling the same way with the option "reactivate hover after releasing any key", as long as I keep the mouse out of the monster area.

How hard is it to reach 50th floor in isekai tower in terms of lv?

Obviously, I won't be able to reach lv 500 by the end of the season.

Assuming I am using 1h + power armor at mag quality, running the rounds with weaken, and not sparking on every few rounds.

I am willing to switch style if necessary.

there are no burden except the long clicking time of melee style while climbing to floor 50. It would take a extremely long time for you to reach lv500 since you don't have any forum exp modifier, but climbing to floor 50 shouldn't cost you another month in isekai. Simply climb every day.

Easy, just spam weaken.

Is it a bad idea to wear a full set of shade? It seems I'm losing HP far easier than having 1 or 2 leather equipment in my set. DW style by the way.

at your level, full shade should be possible. Use weaken if needed. Losing HP is not an issue, you can heal.

If you're using the one from this thread then what you have to do is:

press the button [Dump] and replace
