As someone who used the proxybid function for the first time in the last auction i would like to say, that it was a bit confusing at first sight. But after just a little bit of thinking, it was clear how to do it. So i dont really see the problem. And for those who have a problem with so many digits they can just write the number down somewhere else to the number they want remove the commas or dots they used to easy recognize what the number was and just copy paste. I cant see how someone who can breathe by himself wouldnt be able to do that. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

QUOTE(Superlatanium @ Sep 3 2018, 00:32) I hope a live updating display of what someone's inputted value translates to in plain English will work. eg "84 Million, 242 Thousand Credits". This is a mostly English forum, so I hope that'll make sense to most people
Good thing that only digits are allowed in the input box, I wouldn't want to try to guess at what everyone means with commas and/or periods interspersed with numbers
Why not use octal numbers in exponential notation ? :-)

the last auction I saw someone get "cancel abuse" warning and void all of his bid. What is it and how can I avoid it?

What I was talking about in the experts thread (or God knows where else, I don't remember): players who are forbidden from using regular bids due to abusing the system. If you're bidding the legit way, have no fear.

QUOTE(Snowfoxrb @ Sep 3 2018, 06:56) the last auction I saw someone get "cancel abuse" warning and void all of his bid. What is it and how can I avoid it? It's just an enforcement of the rule that players aren't allowed to bid to reveal a proxy bid, and then edit or otherwise cancel their own manual bid. If that was allowed, it wouldn't be fair, because then people could identify a proxy bidder's max bid at will and then cancel, without having to risk being forced to buy the item themselves. (That's exactly what the user in that auction tried to do) It's not a ban, it's just a requirement that the user is only permitted to bid via proxy bids (which can't be canceled without my manual intervention).

Does the "cancel" void all the bid of that player? What happened to the manual bid if someone competes with him and then cancel, does he pay the highest bid or reset back to the lowest price possible like proxy bid?

QUOTE(Snowfoxrb @ Sep 3 2018, 10:59) Does the "cancel" void all the bid of that player? On that item, yes, it will cancel all previous bids (but not future ones, of course). QUOTE(Snowfoxrb @ Sep 3 2018, 10:59) What happened to the manual bid if someone competes with him and then cancel, does he pay the highest bid or reset back to the lowest price possible like proxy bid? Standard bids are static unless explicitly canceled. Such cancels after a bid war are quite rare, but when that happens, often enough the other user cancels and re-bids the necessary amount to start winning again.

CODE [Mat03] 400 High-Grade Metals (seller: DJNoni) jiuliuyi 206k Proxy bid after #101, 515c per mat; winning for 3.0h / 60.8h; +6.4% How did jiuliuyi snipe a 200k post bid with a 206k proxy bid? Is there no bid increment for materials?

Good observation, it must be correct. CODE +30k if bid < 200k +50k if 200k <= bid < 2m and the item is not a [Mat] +3% for everything else
[Mat17] 25 Defense Matrix Modulator (seller: DJNoni) jiuliuyi 180k Proxy bid after #101, 7.2k per mat; winning for 3.0h / 56.4h; +6.3% He also sniped this 150k post bid but it made him pay 30k more. It's exactly as the rules are written, however it makes no sense to me. I think superlatanium should revise this part of the rule.

I think using proxy bid on bidding materials can already prevent yourself being sniped. A larger bid increment may not be suitable for all kinds/volumes of materials.

It's not the smaller bid increment on materials that I'm criticizing. It's the fact that it doesn't take effect on bids below 200k, then suddenly takes effect after that, which is bizarre.

Not sure if it is applicable to all materials for a 3% bid increment or something. It could endorse snipe bid when the bid price is low and +11%(3% increment +8% tax) is just nothing.

The bid increment for mats is just badly designed, that's all. If we follow the logic, the +3% should be applied for materials starting off 1M and not 200k, as 3% of 1M makes 30k.

That's an oops by me. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Would've gone for 199k if I read carefully enough. Was expecting the kind of increment that decon mentioned above. This post has been edited by monkey_lmf: Sep 23 2018, 17:04

Time left on Auction is <12hours would min increment set at 20k / 50k or 20% of last bid be viable? might be too much for mats tho

My proxy bid for this week's fiery rapier didn't work, I guess this means if someone bids the same amount as a previously placed proxy bid, the regular bidder wins? Assuming that's true, I'm surprised it took me this long to realize it. I think it shouldn't work that way though. This creates a slight disadvantage to proxy bidding because they need to bid +1k to beat people who bid after them. Wait, what happens if two people make the exact same proxy bid? The second guy wins too? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) If everyone realizes this is how the proxies work, then more items will finish with random digit bids when it isn't really necessary.
