When Epion was doing the last round of beauty pageant giveaways, I had said I had ideas for giveaways I wanted to try. They were actually something like this -- musical challenges -- sort of inspired by Epion's bells contest.

But the two main musical contest ideas I had were difficult for the participants and/or the organizer, and I don't know if I will ever get around to trying them (especially considering my inactivity for now).

They probably weren't as hard as yours, though. I don't think I can do yours, my musical sense is lacking. I tried looking up some of that but it's way beyond me. I find hearing/identifying single chords themselves to be difficult.

Yea I feel like this is a bit too hard, though if you know what to listen for, it becomes really easy because these chords have an extremely distinctive sound to them (I found 7 in a single anime the other day, all right off the intro as well).
I'll leave it up for this week to see if there's any entry, if none then I gotta take it down and think of something else for the Xmas-new year combo.

I tried to investigate a bit so I might kind of know what you mean. I could find what the main chord progression sounds like. Even with my lack of brains I could probably go by sound and find a few songs with those. I couldn't find any samples to listen to of the minor chord progressions or the other variants you talked about.

It might be certain kinds of songs with that kind of sound though, so certain animes might be loaded while others don't have any?

If you don't get too many entries, the contest might still work if potential participants can get some training. If you give a longer time period for the first round (like 2~4 weeks) until there are some entries, maybe others can hear more samples and figure out what to listen for.

This progression is particularly prominent in anime, I think almost every single anime has at least one with this progression, though some composers are more guilty than others. If you have ever listened to anime song medleys, probably 15-25% of the cuts will be using this progression because it's pretty much spammed at the start of the chorus.
