I missed the Spook giveaway because last month was busy. But guess what month it is?
It's November!
And you know what month November is. That's why this giveaway will be a wholesome one instead of the usual I have done before. Caution: Long rules, but please read all of them. The prize pool for this event will be bigger than usual to match the efforts. Though it won't be as big as the Xmas+new year giveaway combo.
Entry will be rejected after Nov 30 23:59:59 GMT+0
Conditions No gold star (bronze or silver are okay). Account was created before Oct 01, 2021.
You should be able to guess what this giveaway will be about by now. To cut it short, your entries should contain songs with this particular chord progression (IV V iii vi in major or VI VII v i in minor, add 6 add 7 inversions etc. all count).
Giveaway details
Timeline There are 4 rounds of this giveaway, one for each week (Monday 00:00 ~ Sunday 23:59 GMT+0) with the exceptions below. Round 1 starts the moment this post is up, round 4 ends on Nov 30 instead of Nov 28.
Submission guideline
Valid entry 1.1 - Each post can contain up to 7 songs. More than 7 and your entry will be counted as invalid. 1.2 - Each song should contain the chord progression I described above. 7th, 6th, inversions, etc. are all accepted, e.g. C6 D6 Bm7 Em7/B in E minor is one that I really like. 1.3 - Please use any public link that I can access without signing up, preferably Youtube. Spotify and nico nico douga are fine too. 1.4 - Please put the timestamp where the progression starts. Example: [youtu.be] https://youtu.be/Wz-pNcgYo0c?t=76 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz-pNcgYo0c [1:16] Any format is fine as long as I can access the links and there are timestamps for each song. 1.5 - Only otaku culture music. This is a very broad definition. Some examples (but not limited to) Accepted: - Music used in anime (can be bgm or theme songs) - Visual novel music - Light novel promotion singles - Songs by Japanese artists who did a lot of anime music - Songs used in certain popular rhythm games (Ongeki, SDVX, etc.) - Vocaloid - And more... Not accepted: - [youtu.be] https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?t=1 Use your own judgement to see what would be accepted. 1.6 - You cannot use songs from the same product twice. So if you already used a song from K-On! season 1, another song from season 1 won't be accepted, but season 2 are fine. 1.6b - You can use songs from a product already submitted by other users, but you cannot use the same song. So if someone posted Don't say lazy! (K-On! season 1 ED 1) before you, you can't use that song in your submission but you are free to use any other songs from K-On! season 1. 1.6c - This rule carries over each round. So submitted K-On! season 1 during round 2? You can't use it in rounds 3 and 4. 1.6z - I shouldn't have to say this but don't copy the examples I put in this post. 1.7 - If applicable, always use the original version. Random youtube cover/arrangement won't be accepted if there's an original readily available.
Administrative stuff 2.1 - Posts: You can make one submission during each round, any time is fine as long as it's during the round. So for this entire giveaway, you may make up to 4 valid entries. Off topic posts are fine but please try to keep it civil and somewhat relevant. 2.2 - Validity: To mark your post as a valid submission, add Nutt1/Nutt2/Nutt3/Nutt4 to the start of your post, where the last number indicates the round that submission is for. If you have more than one valid submissions during the same round, only the latest counts. 2.3 - Editing posts: Edited posts are still considered valid. But the edited time will be used as the post creation date. 2.3b - Coupled with rule 2.2, if you have multiple valid posts for one round and you edit some of them, the last edited post will be counted. 2.3c - If a post is edited after a round has finished, that post will be disqualified for that round. 2.4 - First come, first served: Your song will not be accepted if someone has already submitted it before you. Posts are sorted by the posted time or edited time if the post is edited. It's done this way to avoid sabotaging submissions from other users. So if you copy from someone that posts after you and then edit your post after that, your post will contain already submitted songs.
3.0 - I might add more rules to clarify some stuff if necessary. 4.0 - Prize pool might increase depending on how much engagement this event can get. I plan to spend around 30-40M on this giveaway. 0.0 - TL;DR: Each week, just submit 7 songs with timestamps where the anime chord progression happens. 0.z - On my side, I will try to be as accurate as possible but I'm no musician so if I mark any of your submissions as invalid, you'll have to accept this dictator's judgement (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

damn I watch a lot of anime. It would literally be a free win if you abuse vocaloid since amateur writer tends to copy this progression because of how easy it is to use those chords.
I don't really understand this chords stuff but I'm gonna attack cause I want first dibs on my song picks. I'm saving some I really like that I don't think other people will choose. Can we lower the requirement for round clearing to 5 correct picks for the first three rounds, to give people time to learn and experiment with iffy selections?

Round clear is just more credits, getting a few correct will still give a bunch of rewards. 3 of your links don't have timestamps (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)
TBH I dun know how to determine the chord progression of a song (even after an hour of google search) I will just post some that I think they would have in terms of the melody Please comment if my entries are inappropriate so I could get a better pick by elimination (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
PS 1) Question 1: 7 songs in 1 post for all 4 rounds or just 1 submission? 2) Question 2: all 4 submission in 1 post or separate? 3) Question 3: can I resubmit if inappropriate entry? 4) Question 4: Is my entry valid if the time stamp is incorrect? Is there any tolerance?
Gosh, I forgot how much I loved this song. Easily one of my most favorite of all time. Too bad the anime is kinda sucky.

I would say to imagine you are playing a piano. Ignore the melody that your right hand is playing, but rather focus on your left hand's movements. It shouldn't be as fast as the melody, but slower, usually changes every 2 or 4 beats, or even more, compared to melody that can change faster than once every beat.

A1: 7 songs in a post, one post each round, so 28 max in the whole event. A2: 4 separate posts. Because posts are marked by edited time if you edit your post, editing a single post for 4 rounds will disqualify your first 3 rounds. A3: Yes. You can edit your post (if you made it during that round) or make a new one. Either way, your submission time will be updated to either the post edit time or your new post time. A4: A few seconds off is fine, ideally: 1 second right before the progression. But no timestamp = disqualification for only the song without timestamp. Take BlueWaterSplash's post for example. If he doesn't edit his post to include timestamps by the end of this round, he will have 4 valid submissions and 3 invalid for round 1.
T1: I usually go the other way round lol. It would be much easier to listen to the root notes for the anime progression, then it's a perfect fourth down from the first chord in case of a major scale, or the last chord in case of a minor scale.

also ignore diminished and augmented chords as well
I have to disagree with this. One of my favorite progressions is IVV#Vdimvi, which is a spin on the basic IV V iii vi by replacing the 3rd chord with a passing chromatic diminished. It's also a hallmark of anime music. I initially planned to make another music themed giveaway like this based on this progression but judging from the engagement rate for this one, it seems unlikely I will continue this kind of giveaway in the future.
T2: Only helpful if you can read music sheets though.

With people struggling to identify chords I was hoping the requirement could be easier. Can it be enough if anywhere in the song has the desired chord progression? (Maybe it could count towards clearing the round but not the direct reward for that song).
Can we leave the timestamp off if it's at the beginning? The sheet music page says I'm wrong for Toradora but there's other parts too in that song that might qualify.
Railgun was at the beginning after the weird noises, I hope. My computer is too slow to play youtube videos so it's hard for me to find the timestamps more precise than 5 to 10 seconds.
Neferpitu's song is just at the beginning of the normal TV ending too, but it's after all these weird howling noises in the long version. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)
Yugioh was supposed to be at the beginning too, but other parts in the song might fit better.
I revised the timestamp on Mikuru's song. It's what I had intended but 15 seconds off might be too imprecise. I wasn't really trying to aim for the exact spot as I have no confidence and I think this song is iffy. I'm trying to upload good songs more than what might have the proper chords.
Oh, one of them is the doggy song, haha. Did I use that for something here, a previous doge contest? I forget.
But how do we know if our previous submissions were correct? Do we have to wait until December to find out? I'm not sure what the chords sound like, especially the variant ones.
My computer monitor speakers are too poor so I can't really judge what I'm hearing that well on others' videos. I can hear mine better because I listen to them as audio files on a different PC with a decent sound system, but I don't know if they fit the criteria.

I guess just for this round 1, I will release the results now, but for the next rounds, results will only be released at the end of round 4. It's to match the post editing rule after all: if you edit a submission for round x after round x ends, that post is disqualified.

That was a heartbreaking defeat for me..... (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) But it is good to know what's wrong with my selection
A lot from music games eh. I used to play a lot back in the day, quite high level even, but I'm just a crippled man now (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'm still aiming for a variety of different sounds. Maybe some of these are difficult. Or wrong. Possibly even backwards or upside down. I love swimsuit though. Whose butt is that.
I decided to save my aces for the final round. My hard drive is mostly anime bgm and running out of possibly qualifying songs so I called some chipmunks for reinforcements.
I think I figured out the minor version too, so a couple of these songs are aiming for that. I don't really know what minor, major, key, etc mean but my first round taught me a few things to avoid. Little Buster sounded like it came from a farm, so I try to keep away from farm songs now.
