Yes, you need to max the prereqs.

If you have a few thousand credits to blow on training Ability Points, direct damage magic is great for monsters weak to it. Get an encounter with a Tentacle Monster, Cookie Monster and a Cockatrice and you'll be glad you have Inferno. A single crit can take out monsters your level that might have taken 5 or 6 physical hits.

There really is no need for inferno, also since it has a slower casting time and what not regarding speed of the spell, you'd most likely get attacked by the mob twice before your next turn. And it would only work well where you get attacked by 3 or more monsters all weak against fire. Chances of you getting that often are not likely. Better use those points to upgrade HP tanks and MP tanks.

Normal is for real man [new record Round 8 (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ]

and Heroic and up is for that supernaturally gifted men from Hentai flicks (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It looks reall good when you see mage throwing magic missiles from his fingertips while dodging attacks and his magic shield absorbing biggest meanest blows (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I managed to hit round 8 finally a little while ago on normal. Hopefully once equipment is implemented, that should be able to be pushed even further. I'll probably finish up Test of Faith to max out my arena challenges for my level once the new day rolls around in an attempt to score some Second Wind health restores while attempting it since they seem more prevalent during the initial rounds of a new day from my experience.

Yea, what cptkleenex said. The only spell I really invested in is weaken. I don't have cure, shield, silence or those spells available yet otherwise I would invest in those as well.

Me, too. I have 32 different Item names (over 30 Crude or Lesser Health items alone) and use maybe 3-4 a day. Just counted - 85 Draughts or Potions. All 6 Infusion (10 total) and 3 types of scroll.

Since the subtitle of this thread speaks about strategies: what is the order you hit/kill the monsters you're confronted with ? Weakest monsters first ? Most dangerous monsters first ? Something completely random ?

Most of the time, I try to kill them from the weakest monster to the robustest one. However, when I encounter a monster that is able to make a lot of damage, I kill him (it?) first ... but unfortunately, most of the time, I don't remember which monster is the most dangerous (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I guess the relationship between the spells one has and the resistance of the monsters to that spells also needs to be taken into account. But since I don't use spell at all, I don't have to think about that (lazy choice, yes) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I go typically go from weakest to strongest though Rabid Hamsters and the Slimes typically get priority.

I'm thinking of getting direct damage magic again just to whack the Slimes (hopefully in one hit...). That might actually be more MP efficient.

I've just started poisoning bosses and whales in the last level of A New Beginning and I'm liking the results. By the time I finished off the other three, the whale was 1 good smash away from being dead.

I weaken with the harder hititng monsters first.

Then I poisen them all.

I then use elemental magic to take out most of the HP of the tougher monsters, and then let the poisen take care of them while I normal attack the weaker monsters to death.

Slimes I try to 1-hit with ice strike or wind blast. Sometimes I slow them while they're asleep

Weaken and poison? You cannot have the MP to get very far in the Arena implementing that strategy...

I hate the slimes, damn green slime crits with its jiggle and it sucks. Yea sleep is key for the slimes, or silence. I hope I can get silence soon. That would be the next spell I max out
