QUOTE(Blutkaefer @ Aug 21 2009, 11:45) Thanks to my near-complete set of Plate armor, I beat up to Blazing Field. I haven't been bored enough to see how far I can grind yet though.
LOL, be prepared for Endless Cakefest. Between Second Winds and monsters barely doing any damage to plate armor, you can go pretty high. Today I think I'll try Easygrind and see how far I can get.

It does seem like having a set of heavy armor is currently THE BEST THING to have, since in my incomplete cloth/light mix I am roughly as powerful as I was before the update - still making it to ~12/13 on cake and finishing Road Less Traveled - yet people with half my level but in heavy armor are plowing through higher arenas and surviving through 10x as many rounds in the grind as I can (which before was only a feat reported by people with ~100 levels or more). And of course being able to do that many rounds of cake means ton of loot, which means more equips, which means even longer chance to survive in it. Good for you (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I wish the early equip lottery would have given me some heavy armor instead of clothen cap and leather boots (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Oh well... I hope this becomes somehow balanced. This post has been edited by Red_Piotrus: Aug 21 2009, 21:21

Maybe not. 1st non-glitched Dreamfall victory. Cloth/Light Armor. Single Wield with Buckler. (IMG:[ i422.photobucket.com] http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp308/hitokiri84/dreamfell.png) Nice armor, but I would have preferred a Battlecaster version. It's probably better for higher level chars to go with cloth for evasion anyway, considering the damage reduction through the armor is a set number, while with evasion they don't hit you at all.

But then we don't know how proficiency affects armor yet. Or at least I don't recall Tenboro mentioning it yet.

Well yea, but I'm talking about in the current situation. As it is currently, for lower levels heavy armor is better cause it absorbs pretty much all of the damage, but for higher levels evasion is better since the amount absorbed is trivial. Oh yea, got to level 25 then ran into a mind raper, decided to leave cause my luck with second winds sucked so I had to use my mana pots I brought..here's what it looked like when I ran (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) 1 11 You have escaped from the battle. 1 10 You dodge the attack from Cookie Monster. 1 9 You dodge the attack from Rabid Hamster. 1 8 You dodge the attack from Cockatrice. 1 7 Blue Slime hits you for 0 crushing damage. 1 6 Mantitcore hits you for 0 piercing damage. 1 5 Fire Fox hits you for 0 slashing damage. 1 4 You dodge the attack from Mind Raper. 1 3 Flee procs the effect Fleeing on yourself. 1 2 You use Flee. 1 1 Effect Shield on yourself has expired. Edit: Oh yea, and that's with only one piece of heavy armor, the rest is cloth/light...on cake of course cause I'm still training DW a bit. This post has been edited by Dndestroy: Aug 21 2009, 23:53

I'm up to Road Less Traveled in The Arena. I've reached Grindfest round 39 on Cake.

I'm starting to see this...I have all heavy armors and I still take lots. I don't have enough credits to try out light/medium armors at the moment, but once I do I'll buy some and play around. Also, it's probably mentioned before, but does difficulty level affect proficiency gain, and loot quality? I might be paranoid but it seems cakegrind isn't as fruitful as normal grind. I don't think proficiency gain is affected - it's never been mentioned AFAIK - but item quality definitely is.

Got to round 127 in grindfest today with many godly mana items left but got bored and quit. Again not a single equipment drop (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Ah, as it makes sense to grind proficiency in cake, at least when you're trying to level up something you rarely use.

I've gotten upto like round 20 or something in the grindfest without using items utilizing 3 major powers and 1 minor power: 1. Luck, and lots of it 2. Cure, helps out a hell of a lot 3. Second Winds. Minor power: 1. Always killing tentacle monsters and green slimes first.

Posts like this are starting to annoy me. I'm not picking on Hayate23 specifically (his post just happened to be on this page), nor am I referring to those such as Hito who've paid millions of credits for the privilege, but I really think something's wrong with the system if certain players can get unlimited items, EXP or whatever just by wearing the right bits of armour. I'm sure this suggestion will be hugely unpopular, but maybe the difficulty level should increase every 20 rounds or so?

As annoyed as I am by that post I'm gonna have to disagree. Things like that can only be done on cake/easy (I think) and so the amount of exp earned is still tiny and the items found not that good. I have decent armor and I can't get past 20 on grindfest without really good items, so I'd prefer if it didn't get any harder. In fact, I'd prefer if the old grindfest was still doable.

I would bet your level is a pretty hefty factor in determining equipment drop chance since I get equipment left and right without having trained Quartermaster but one time. The best bet for lower level people would be to save a few credits and camp the shop until someone sells items above your level. Then again, it's only fair that I get the most drops since there is no one above me to sell incredible items (unless you count tenboro, which i don't.)
Let me also take this opportunity to say that instead of downgrading equipment bought from the shop for balance purposes, there should instead be a flat minimum level you have to reach before you can even equip the item. Something like 10-15 levels difference or so. Basically you should think of it as your character not being experienced or skilled enough to wield a particular piece of equipment until you've reached that certain minimum difference.

I agree to a certain extent.
<concrete opinion why here, but later>
also gf level 41 without items now, which is still stupid. Really Tenb, how is it people half my level make it to round 300+ but i and probably others can't even get past level 90 anymore?

(IMG:[ www.vgcats.com] http://www.vgcats.com/comics/images/061105.jpg) Never really been a fan of the 'you can't wear this' method, but it would make choosing armor from the bazaar easier. On the other hand Tenb already said that using equipment farther from your level wasn't as good, though he didn't explain why.

Because its easy at low levels if you have good equipment. I can Cake with practically no items because monsters do negligible damage (only spells really hurt me any), Second Winds take care of filling me back up, and I can Cure and Shield when needed. Any difficulty higher and I actually have to work at it. Its also getting more difficult as I start plowing through levels. I've gone up in level maybe twice per day since the update, but its really hurting the magic profs important for a melee character. Shield doesn't help nearly as much, and I don't think it ever will even after I get it close to my level since it absorbs so little damage. Cure restores my health only enough before another round or so knocks it back down. Sure, its easy to get through an ungodly amount of rounds in Grindfest, but the rate at which you level and the rate the strength of the monsters increase start getting further away from each other.
