QUOTE(treesloth @ Jan 25 2015, 18:22) I started as rainbow mage. then went dark. then went holy to clear SGs super fast. Now have dark/holy/wind sets.
now using charged dark to gfest and arena. Holy for SGs. Wind set incomplete.
after having near endgame sets for all mage styles, my advice: In terms of damage/mana spent, elemental > holy/dark. holy=dark. Gfest is much more profitable than SGs (on average), and elemental can supposedly complete PFUDOR gfest. You can always have a mediocre holy/dark set to do SGs. if you feel you need 'better cure' add gloves or shoes of heimdall.
Nice bit of info. I have some questions: 1. To complete PFUDOR-Fest as Elemental, is Imperil necessary? 2. To complete PFUDOR-Fest as Elemental, is Ether/Spirit Theft necessary? 3. To complete PFUDOR-Fest as Elemental, around how many levels of Armor Forging do you recommend? 4. Can Hellfest be completed as Elemental without Ether/Spirt Theft, Ether Tap, and Infusions? If so, around how many levels of Armor forging is necessary to do it?

Disclaimer: I've never cleared PFUDOr gfest or made a serious attempt. Either I don't know the correct 'setup, ' or my gear isn't good enough. But as far as I know (with destruction staff and 5 phase), imperil is needed, spirit theft is needed, ether tap is needed. and many infusions and many scrolls. Apparently someone completed it right after the monster round selection patch; don't know if it can be done any more. I would like to give it a go with a prof piece, but it's hard to find a good one.

I need to get to level 450 to unlock the power of elemental. Meanwhile every melee with his dog is completing pfudorfest, my niten set clears hellfest slightly faster but is slower for everything else.

Holy shit! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) If even high level heavily forged mages like you can't clear PFUDOR-Fest, I should kiss that dream of mine goodbye! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/faint.gif) Which Prof piece? Holy/Dark or Elemental? If you're talking about Elemental, I'm more than happy to lend you my Lmax Base Prof Elemental Robe. I'm very much interested in seeing how much deeper Elemental mages can go in GF. Worst part of going mage at low levels, IMO, is that you have to spend time grinding proficiencies to get past tier 1 spells, and it's gonna take a while if you don't have hath perks or enough credits coming in to max assimilator. Best way to grind it in this case would be to equip high-interference stuff.

(IMG:[ puu.sh] http://puu.sh/fEKw1/ee6923f9e8.png) Trying to get elemental proficiencies high enough for tier 2 is a bit time-consuming when you're only using about 1.9% of your mana pool per cast. I just use random armour with high interference. xD Staves are relatively easy in comparison, at least so far. This post has been edited by conundrum: Feb 8 2015, 23:35

I've been Maging since the start, maybe it's best I don't know what it's like the be physical because it seems fine to me. 70% ice damage boost helps. I usually use a couple greater mana pot and end a grind session at like round 70ish on average. I do play on Normal difficulty, but I like that my proficiencies don't get too behind.
I haven't even messed with equip upgrading or item dungeons yet (Pretty much all Phase Nilf gear), guess that would help too.

I'm rank 75 and just curious, how do you keep your mana up. I use a 2-handed Mace (recently switched from a longsword after finding that "stunned" >>>>>>>>>> "bleeding"), and it seems like I spend all of my mana just casting cure to stay alive. If you have to use mana for curing AND magic, seems like you will run out very fast.

You should be using a staff for starters. Occasionally enemies will get a debuff on them from your spells that will restore your mana when you melee them with your staff. Staffs can also get Mana Conservation and I think pretty much all other weapons have Interference on them that raises the mana cost of all your spells tremendously. Focus also restores mana for 25 overcharge. I've been getting to level 100+ with only one or less mana potions. As a mage, you should have 0 Interference. If you use your gems as soon as you get them, you can keep going for quite a while just off of the mana gems you get. Gems are temporary consumables you get frequently from enemy drops in a battle. You can only have one at a time and they don't overwrite eachother. So you should try to use all your health/spirit/channeling gems as soon as you get them so you will have a chance to pick up mana gems sooner. With Focus, Mana Gems, and Mana Conservation (While avoiding all interference), it's actually fairly easy to be self sustaining, at least until higher levels where you need to heal frequently.
