I've spent over 600$ on translation commissions from Saha, which first thing went into this site. I've also spent many hours translating works myself. Which also went first thing into this site. I do not upload anywhere else.

Now what's the bloody point for me to even bother commissioning or translating works myself, if the amount of GP I get will only be enough to download about 10-20 works that were uploaded more than 3 years ago.
Wait, are you kidding me? You're blaming Tenboro's minor change to fix archiver abuse on the fact that you paid six hundred bucks for crappy commissions you could have obtained for free or translated yourself as you mentioned, then reposted them here for everyone to see because you are an altruistic person, and we should totally thank you ...so that gives you the right to bitch about the change? Donate $600 to the site next time, maybe that'll make the point slightly more valid.

You playing the clicky game doesn't help pay for more servers.
This. HV doesn't help in any way with tagging and server hosting, it shouldn't be related to mod power. This is why I'm asking for 6 less mod power, Tenboro. And not just for me! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
>Probably not going to happen but brace for user mootpoint about spending their life on HV to get mod power if it does!

As for people worried about not being able to catch up with heran because "oh noes nobody will be doggiebagging anymore and my galleries are screwed!", think ahead.

Everyone has the potential to earn 40,000 GP a day at the very least from just logging in now, there's a slight tweak to archives and it's the end of the world. On the upside, a good bunch of users had fully positive feedback. I guess that makes patchnotes slightly less painful for Tenboro to read.

ALPINE EDIT: I even forgot to mention moneybags are involved in said bitching. How could you possibly spend that many GP? Tight on cash, create torrents and keep them alive. Connection sucks like mine, save cash and use one of the many other alternatives. (Yes, if I could H@H, I would, but my ISP's a bitch and I'm stuck with a lousy connection - then again there are people with even worse connection speed... or no Internets nor computers. <Insert Age of Empires: The Age of Kings taunt here>)

Actually, commissioning and sharing is contributing to the community and I thank every commissioner who shares because it's fucking expensive and they are not obligated to make their scanlations public. Also the price increase for people with no stars who download by hand is sort of fucked so I tend to agree with him. I know that the change was necessary for the reasons Tenboro gave but that doesn't mean the cost modifier doesn't need to be tweaked a little.

Note that it's still a work in progress and adjustments will likely happen. Tenboro will adjust if tyranny is to be found somewhere. Tenboro fixes shit while sleeping. Actual quote.

Right now, I fail to see where the "expensive" is. How do you spend hundreds of thousands of GP a day? Possibly even millions? I don't know much about overspending, please teach me how this works. If you download 4,000 archives a week, you are doing it wrong. Imagine that everyone does the same thing. Actually, you could be banned for that, but Tenboro decided to make it more costly instead.

That's the key here. Imagine everyone else does exactly what you do and try to understand why this happened.

EDIT: And don't blame it on Wani. Actually, that shit will cause people to download stuff because they're paranoid, even though it might have been removed instantly from day 1. See pixiv and nijie accounts? They can vanish at any given time, whenever someone decides to be really, really rude and rip their galleries, then upload it here (or somewhere else). That seems to happen fairly often. Some even take the time to state it in English. That's in the rules - no reproduction allowed. Even if you link back to their gallery, you need the artist's full consent. And in the rare event the artist grants you an exception, pixiv/nijie can also decide to terminate their account themselves.

Sorry for getting on my high horse as usual and acting like I'm a mod or something when I'm just another random user douchebag, but I really don't get the issue at hand. Archives got slightly more expensive in an effort to prevent abuse that could blow up the cluster (or freeze it) and prevent you from accessing that at all. What is the problem? Do you value GP over content?

You probably don't read nearly as much hentai as I do. Also, I never came close to running out of gp before this patch. Now, if I want to download one of the recent Comic LOs, look at the cost: Download Cost: 286,862 GP. This gallery would of been 30-40k before iirc. So yeah, the increase is fucking steep, and I read/look at everything I download. I keep a folder for every months downloads, so far July has 843 and the month is almost over, so it's not like I'm in the 4k-5k a week that Tenboro said was the top abusers.

It's not really that big of deal. I mean I'll still get my hentai one way or another. But I still think some adjustments might be nice, something that would still keep bots from mass downloading but not punish the people who read a lot of hentai so much (like increasing the threshold at which the price starts getting modified).

And I thought reading 2 terabytes of Japanese books was a lot. This can't be real.

I recreate one archive a month from EH in the worst case situation. Everything else is from torrents or simply other sources - you know, they exist. I don't consider myself the norm, so I'll assume the decent average would be, say, 2-3 recreations a day.

Now, at 40k a day, let's assume this average user (poor dude doesn't have any other source of cash, so the Dawn event is the only thing they have without working) is interested in really huge stuff that costs 200k GP. Bounties, services, looking up stuff and uploading it yourself or HV, if you're that desperate. Oh, yes, you can donate too, but that's not strictly necessary. Or you can wait. Oh, but there's paranoia that it could disappear at any time. Yes. You could also pass away in your sleep or get hit by a bus and not get your faps and dawn of a new day. If mankind really faps to that much stuff and proudly makes <offtopic>babies sit on a potty with a fucking tablet attached to it</offtopic>, I'm not surprised at all that this mindset is so common.

Well, I'm kind of derailing here. No offense intended... Mostly. And overreacting.

This past week I downloaded more than usual because someone started spamming torrents and I didn't really trust them to be making legit torrents instead of resized galleries, so I went and downloaded the archives for his/her torrents (when those were galleries I was interested in) instead of taking a chance. Now trying to download a 341MB gallery costs me 36k GP, which would be double on the dark side and I don't feel that's exactly right.

Frankly I don't like this change since my costs ramped up so much and so suddenly and also because I know I do download a lot when I find a new artist that interests me and the archive download is my only choice to grab the gallery, so I can foresee my costs to be higher than they were once the week resets to a more manageable level.

Hopefully the tweaks to the numbers (if there will be tweaks) will bring down the prices but I hope the change won't push some people to post even more resized galleries torrents, which is my bane along with having to rename almost all torrents I download.

How about next time you actually read what's written before replying. Because not only have you completely misenterpreted what I'm getting at here but you're downright ignorant on the fact where the translations come from. Here's a hint: those free translations are provided by people like us, you ingrate.

And this is the first and last time I'll reply to you. Off to the ignore list with you.

More like required. It screws over too many people right now. Does the price even reset after some time or what?

im having some issues with the thumbnail rows.
a long time ago i bought the first thumbnail perk, mainly to see them in larger size.
now with this update, im supposed to have 10 rows now, but everytime i apply the change, whenever i go to a gallery it still shows 4. go back to settings, and notice that it reverted to 4.
i can still see large thumbs

i would like an answer to this, please.

addendum: this happens on the important site.

Cookie issue? Using privacy/incognito mode? Just rough guesses.

If that still doesn't work, try clearing them, log back in and see if that works.
(Note that you will have to reconfigure your settings.)

Something's also wrong with the gallery comment sections after this patch as well. Comments that should be hidden are shown.

Glad it was that simple.

Also, chaos-x is right; all hidden comments are now displayed by default (and cannot be hidden, rendering the link useless). Is this an undocumented feature or a goof, boss?

I still don't understand why you did what you did, Tenboro. I see two problems, right?
1. Hordes of bots attacking server;
2. People don't donate enough.
The solution you implemented partly solves both of them, but also it strongly affects in bad way every living being on this site. Especially people who DL more than few galleries a day. And there are still more tolerate alternatives.

Minor changes:
• For beginning, why not track any suspiciously fast downloaders grabbing archives from single IP?
• If that's too difficult - just add a limit for parallel downloads. 5 at a time would be enough for any doujinshi fan (or maybe 10? Okay, 7 is good).
• Donation page isn't obvious enough. Also, users would donate more if they could see current perfomance state of server via graphic or any other statictics. No one wants these treasures of mankind to be lost.
• Grant more benefits for torrents creation and seeding so servers will be less loaded.
• Popularize Home@Hentai and lower the threshold of outcomming connection speed. Though I'm online 16 hrs a day and have things to share, I don't even now what that service is because of sh*tty internet.

Major changes:
• Most obvious option is to add requirements for those who want to download whole galleries. As I said, most downloaders are way too lazy or don't actually need to DL archives, so they'll abandon this feature once it becomes more difficult to do.
If "achieve 50 level in the clicky game" isn't enough, there's a hard way to solve 1. and 2. (still less tirany than last update):
• Allow downloading only to those who donated and others get 3-10 downloads a day depending on mod power. I know what you think, but that's what most online services do - give download feature when you pay for account. If so, it would be nice of you to lower donation sum to 5 or 10 dollars (chocolate star, i.e.) or add a possibility to buy that star for ~500'000 credits. Quite adequate cost I guess. Then, servers will breath freely, common participants will get their few archives a day, those who donated won't feel any change and donations will remain voluntary.

I like how every single individual entity refers to every living being with their own approach. I just don't understand.

Tenboro, do I get a Gold Star if I [lanternae.deviantart.com] provide you with a lifetime aspirin contract?

EDIT: ASCII art fail. Not enough magical fillies.

Time to shoot myself and everyone else in the foot~
I believe the real problem lies in a) how easy it is to rack up GPs and credits with little effort and b) how you can download a lot of stuff with a few GPs/credits (yes, even after the latest change)
1) Galleries generate a lot of wealth; I've only uploaded a few not-so-popular galleries years ago and to this day I still get more GPs than I can consume
2) Back when I was still playing HV I could rack up 1+ million credits in a day just by completing the daily arena. And I was terrible at that game. Granted, this was almost 2 years ago and I have no idea how things have changed since then, but even anywhere near that amount is ridiculous (especially if you manage to distance yourself from that credit-sucking game)

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the cost of archives go up even more.
I only use the doggie bag for smaller galleries (50MB is already enough to make me wince) or galleries with no seeded torrents; everything else I torrent and it has worked wonders so far

Yes, it is worth noting that you should make sure that your settings are set to MANUAL download, MANUAL accept (should be default unless something went wrong). Especially if you want to go with the plan.

Reported by chaos-x, confirmed by self... and you as well now, Binglo. I asked the boss, but Tenboro's gonna need some serious aspirin wih the alligator shit and what this patch seems to have spawned. Not to mention the two also overlap due to how they "work". (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Also, Tiap, let me hug you. First, it's been a while, and second, damn, about time someone says it without shortfusing like me while trying to act as a meatshield for the boss. (Actually, you're the third one with a polite and fair statement, but SectTrack and EsotericSatire posted in this thread.)

There are things that never change. Post-patch (or rather patch-in-process in this case) madness is one of them. At least some people were pleased, but now we need to argue to convince the ones who are not amused and that's like trying to break a diamond block with your bare fists.
