If I have anything to complain about the lottery, it won't be about whether it's unfair, fair enough, or perhaps a bit too fair and et cetera — my complain would be that, to me, the current lottery is just too... 'timid', and is nowhere near EVIL enough as many people claimed or would like it to be, which in turn made the scheme, with the occasional drool-worthy prize and all that, feels rather bland and boring for many people to participate even though they may willing to and could actually afford to do so.

I don't recall any huge clammoring for a Lottery in lieu of fixing the many issues and game mechanics, so this is just a way to ignore the drops issue and also have people waste at the same time. I think I've gotten maybe 1 drop ever that is actually worth some real credits/game play value. Even with training.

Lottery is a (for one reason) cover for bad drops just as Peerless is a way to cover for lackluster Legendaries.

What do you mean by fairness? There may not be distributive fairness, though arguably is as those that take the biggest risk have the highest chance of reward, but there is procedural fairness with the lottery.

Rather than lotto, I'm selling my GP and enjoying the higher rate of credit return.

The Problem with HV and every other Loot based game is balance.

If you don't get anything it feels wrong and people start to complain. See HV or Diablo 3 for Example.
If you get to much you will have BiS at level 300 and have nothing more to do. Sure you can still forge and collect Crystal but once you done gearing up thee is not much more desire to grind for me.

Back in times of EDB Bug it felt the best. (for mage) Phase was pretty rare but every time one dropped with the correct suffix it was a possible Upgrade and when you got one you actually felt stronger!
And it was pretty much the best balanced in terms of time invested and gain (again for mage only lol)
Sure mage was fuck OP in lower settings but who cares about them. Note back then we had harsh daily limits and if you are done you are done for today. You wont be able to play more no matter what. Also to pull off epic feats like oneshotting the Highest setting (which i was so close to ;_;) you had to put a shitload of effort into the game. Play a lot of Rounds and trade, get Damage perks.
