NGE back in the early -00's
I believe I was 13 at the time.
I was into Rammstein, and I got a burned CD from a friend with a couple of songs and the EOE AMV with Engel.

Thought it was going to be an upbeat anime about giant robits fighting huge monsters to save the world.
Oh well.

my first anime was hellsing, i've known about anime all my life but never liked cartoons as a kid so i figured i would most likely hate it and never gave it a chance

i couldn't have been more wrong. after seeing hellsing and the awesomeness of alucard and all the gore it was so fascinating and unlike anything i had seen previously the cartoony style art coupled with the gory parts really drew me in

i love the horror/gore genre so it was easy for me to get into and it slowly grew from there but hellsing is what started it all for me

Love Hina did it for me. I was in my early teens, and it was just perfect to watch. Hilarious, beautifully drawn, and emotional. Still to this day, one of the best harem anime, and I don't even like harem anymore.

I know this is a little off-topic, but since then, I've found my unique taste. I try to stay completely away from the mecha genre. I veer more towards psychological seinen. If an anime doesn't have good music, I won't continue with it. I stopped watching shounen for the most part, with the only exception being if it is freaking funny. A good example of what I look for is Monster.

Anyone else feel the same way? Also, any Love Hina firsts in this joint!?!? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
