I got into watching anime fairly recently. All my friends were super into anime and one of them recommended me One Punch Man as a starting point. He made me watch it with him and I really enjoyed it. From there on I started getting more recommendations from them all and now I'm reading manga and watching whatever comes out each season.

My very first anime was the generic ones, like Dragonball Z dubs that were run on cartoon channels. But the first anime that I started watching as a teenager was SAO, because of the hype surrounding it. Got really into it, read all the light novels and manga. Then branched off into more anime, and realised my first anime wasn't as good as I thought it was.

Technically it was Pokemon but that was just as a kid. If you're talking the first anime that got me into anime proper, it's Neon Genesis Evangelion.
