QUOTE(Ichy @ Jan 9 2013, 16:40) *

there is a decline in GP but hath is about the same for me.

This. Hath seems steady, but I feel like the amount of files I've dished out have been declining for the past 3-4 months or so. Some of the decline is because I've had some problems, like my boxes hanging up and having to do some re-starts due to some updates I've made. But it can't account for all the decline in daily file upload. Missed yearly top-list 7th position by a margin of maybe 1.5 days of more sharing (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif). Got 7 monthly top-list awards last year, one of them 3rd place. This year's gonna be tough with the way things are going.

Also it saddens me that I can only get the speed test of the client to go to about 1/4th or 1/5th of my maximum (on both my clients). I'd like to see how much I'd really be able to dish out if I got proper speeds at the test.

Also it seems indeed that the Europe & Africa region has way too more capacity than is necessary. For instance current utilization is about 19% while Asia is at 117%. What a difference.

Due to the way H@H distributes traffic, adding additional capacity in the Europe region will indeed give less for the raw capacity compared to America and particularly Asia, simply because it's fairly saturated.

Sadly it's impossible to get an unmetered connection over 1mb/s in Asia for less than $1200 a month. Believe me I've been looking. I'm still looking. I've found 1gb/s connection with 500GB a month... which I'd hit in about no time flat.

That's probably my fault. I've added more servers again and so their cache's are building. Until they get up to 20/day everyone else will probably have noticeable drop offs.

I wondered if you tried the "--use_more_memory" option before as you didn't put that in your procedures to Ichy...

And also wondering if I switch VPS plans should I migrate the cache as well.

You only get some many cache rebuilds. I've only managed to get a client banned once and it was active for 4+ years. Tenboro is able to reset them but I'd say migrate the cache. Just add the entire H@H folder as a torrent and torrent in from your server to the new server. Probably the easiest way.

I've never bothered to migrate the cache.

Torrents seem to hate thousands of files. rsync works great though.

ex. using latest nightly rsync:
CODE
/usr/local/bin/rsync -r --info=progress2 --no-inc-recursive --rsh='ssh -p22' /srv/hath/cache hath@{remote server}:~

rsync is kind of slow on first copy. You can just tar it all and pipe it over with:

CODE
tar -c /path/to/dir | ssh remote_server 'tar -xvf - -C /absolute/path/to/remotedir'

This gets line speed for me on low end VPS unlike rsync as it's only sending one file.

Not exactly. My new bunch of VPSes are Unix. If Windows I can simply use Filezilla.

I personally like the idea from screwthatguy, but I haven't tried it though, my plans are only ending at the end of this month.
