Is it bad to Hath generation if a client could not sustain a +1000 trust (as long as it doesn't drop below 0)? I found that this is quite frequent to my current VPS provider but just a very small part of them would eventually drop below 0.

It might indicate some connectivity issues, but as long as it isn't dropped, the error rate is still relatively low.

I have set some random ridiculous high number to max burst speed and my Trust is always 1000.

Doesn't really matter as long as the connection and server can handle it. All the official servers run with a burst speed of a gigabit, with the actual bandwidth use being regulated through the cache size.

So it would be best to leave that number high and limit cache size once the servers reach their limit?
Dishing out fewer files at max speed sounds better then more files with lower speed since no one wants to wait for his porn to load.

That is optimal, yes. It both reduces the server-side overhead in that there are fewer files to track, and client-side performance in that there are fewer files to fight over space in the OS disk cache.

That's what I figured on trust but wanted to make sure. Typically what I randomly see is Trust just become +800 and then it starts coming back up. I've never seen an explanation as to why the trust just changes. Oh hey another symbol neat.

So stupid, saw a post earlier mentioning some VPS providers, saw an open slot for Quark Unmetered and quickly applied one, but soon found out that they don't allow running Java programs... then looking at BuyVM, originally saw they have quite many slots available but all became 0 just moments later.

Just wondering if there're any more good & cheap VPS suggestions.

You could try one of [www.fasthosts.co.uk] these?
the vs100 comes with 2 Ips so you could run to h@h with 40GB Cache.

I will try a dedicated server from them once Tenb has added my requested clients.

I think it sounds more sensible for a dedicated server to have more than 1 client but I just wonder if a VPS can afford that. For my currently-owned clients, they are all from the same provider and it's difficult for them to sustain a +1000 trust even there's only 1 client per server, I am not sure if other providers would be better.

I was also looking if there's some good & cheap VPS hosts in Asia as the utilization is always the highest for the region, but for the VPS I looked at so far tends to be more expensive than the US/Europe ones. What I looking for is just to get the most hath out of a single penny, so maybe I don't need to get 20 hath per client like G Just G.

And BTW I started thinking if it would be better for H@H Clients to have the bandwidth limits configurable monthly rather than hourly (or even have multiple configurable options, e.g. hourly, daily, weekly, monthly), as the bandwidth limits are usually counted in months (whether it is VPS or the home broadband). Since the utilization may be different in different hours, some hours may get to the cap eventually but some may be under-used.

Out of interest: How much does your box cost per month and how many hath/day you get?

About US$5 for a Linux one and US$7 for a Windows one. 4-6 Hath/Day for Windows ones and 6.5-7.5 Hath/Day for Linux ones. (So there seems no reason for me to use Windows ones anymore.)

Oh then these are already better then the Binge box from bytesized I use for 17euro/month since they only generate ~10hath/ day
what service is yours?

[www.burst.net] Burstnet. They have bandwidth limits (1TB min.) but given the slowness it seems it will not get pass that limit, so I didn't set a limit on the H@H page.

I would set a limit slightly below just to make sure.

I was wondering about it for some time as well. Thanks for explanation Tenboro.

btw, G Just G. Please don't mind my jokes, I really admire your MS Windows skill, I'm clueless on that OS and therefore I believe that at some point in life I might need your help. It's just that I'm a free software guru and you are a windows master, there must be some unavoidable competition between us (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Ichy what's your current speed reported on H@H page for the bytesized? Just got a VPS from Germany with a much higher "current speed" than the US ones but not sure if it would eventually bring in more Hath.

Got another question. Could there be a performance difference between different Linux flavors? For the H@H clients I got so far, I choose CentOS 6 if available (the Linux version I touched most is RHEL 5.x, because of my job). On 1 of my VPS provider they use Debian 6 by default and seems more stable (in terms of sustaining "Trust" and network speed), but perhaps this is because of provider rather than OS...

I think it is because of the provider. One may have much more customers at each Server so it will be overloaded ore often.

By the way I just ordered my new server. I might need some help to set it up with 3 Clients running (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

The "fasthosts" you mentioned earlier? DS500 or DS710i?

DS500

Lets see how this works out. If it is too weak i will chose the bigger one to replace my worthless Binge Boxes once they run out.
