Melee isn't hard... I was able to do DWD on Battletoads with Shade armor and dual-wielding a Club and Rapier. And that was before I got my epic new Rapier.

Plate can give you over 90% physical mitigation. Power can give you insane amounts of damage, possibly over 6000 if I'm not mistaken. Phase can... well, you know how powerful holy/dark mages are. You're forgetting shield armor, the counter-evade means that shield helmet of protection is usually notably better than shield helmet of barrier, expect for 1hs, and latter can lose to plate, bearing equal rolls, at high enough level. When you're facing 5- monsters at once DW can do quite well in comparison to 2h.

hitting 6000 base damage without a weapon would take some very nice armor + a ton of upgrades. With a weapon you're talking +10,000 base damage.

I didn't know five-digit damage was even possible under any circumstances. Personally I'm currently doing just 4208.1 base damage with my Shade set + Slaughter Estoc... (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

I've be over that in a few levels or when I finish upgrading my estoc's damage. I've only done 21 phy damage upgrades on all my slaughter gear so there is a lot of room to get more damage + some of it doesn't have any STR. So with more upgrades and just leveling up +15k damage should be doable.

shade gives you DEX/AGI & high attack speed. I think that would work best when you use it with stun from a weapon or a skill to gain more attacks while the monster cant move.

Shade+Mace is not only a waste of life, but also sheer suicidal. High damage estoc is a must-have for shade.
