FTL is a space flight simulation game. You're directing a spacecraft to reach the fed fleet, carrying a data pack from the rebels. You need to travel through different sectors, fighting against different spaceships, invite new crew members, upgrade your ship, get better weapons, and finally beat a boss-like spaceship. The fun part is that everything's random generated during the trip, so every trip is somewhat different!
There're 9 ships in total, 8 unlocked by different events. There's also two version for each ship, the second version obtainable by fulfilling certain achievements with the first version!

Somehow I only get 4 ships. Maybe I should try harder towards those events. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I have a better games played vs games won ratio in Spelunky. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

CODE
Reach The last stand
Have 4 weapons, and enough upgrades to use all at once
Get killed by auto figher.

CODE
Get teleporter
sent other 2 crewmembers to sabotage enemy vessel
enemy vessel then destroyed by asteroid

Quick question, why is "show beacon route when hovered" off by default? As an ecosavvy spacefarer, I am morally outraged.

Dunno. But they only added that option the last day or so.

Trustworthy Auto-Pilot: Defeat an enemy ship with all of your crew aboard it.

What.

Doesn't this constitute a loss?

Don't know. 'Defeat' can also be 'killing everyone on the enemy's ship', I think.

And I only had to run away once! Wish I hadn't used so many missiles on the way there though. Pegasus launcher, what can I say? Plus having 4 weapons and the pre-igniter is awesome.

MFW "POWER SURGE DETECTED" with only 5 haul left.

Grats.

The only problem with missile-based weapons is that they are useless against ships with defense drones - which includes the Flagship's second stage. I always switch them for any bomb that isn't fire as soon as I can.

Incidentally - Lonesome Dashie in The Vortex (Engi B) took down the Flagship yesterday. And thus I pass the challenge on to you. :3

I'd have to come to the conclusion that this game is Not Good due to the complete and utter inability to complete the game using any ship without an impressive weapons array or having the ability to obtain one over the course of the game since the game gladly forces you into no-win combat situations more than the average ship can handle and there's an embarrassingly frequent encounter set where no amount of knowledge, reaction (such as weaving in Halberd strikes after putting down shields) and planning can help.

Thankfully the ship editor is being worked on so we can rectify that.

There aren't very many runs I don't end up with *some* combination of equipment that is capable of taking down anything. Granted, some runs end up being battles of attrition where I hide behind defense drones while waiting for the enemy to exhaust its missile supply, but it's all about making due with what you get.

Which isn't saying that it never happens - it would be great if for example shops were expanded to sell at least one more category of stuff, or a higher chance of selling weapons. But I have normal victories with Kestrel A/B, Mantis B, Engi A/B, Federation A/B, Slug B and Zoltan B - and the rest are because I either haven't unlocked them, or simply because I haven't used them much.

The only ship I'd categorize as "total ass with no redeeming features" is Rock A. Because fuck that ship.

yeah it'd also be great if you weren't auto-forced into a fight with a vastly superior enemy on the first jump and literally all your attacks keep missing
and this happens every time you restart the game

and the fact that you only have access to 2 maybe 3 ships on easy difficulty

the only run where i got past sector 2 in normal was where the game just shat a bunch of weapons on me, but no scrap to actually use them nor a store to offload them for alternatives

maybe this game gets "better" if i manage to unlock the SUPER COOL L@@K SHIPS where you're given weapons and ship features out the ass and not stuck with a total of a tin can and an offensive drone

but this is just a C- or 1.5 stars out of 4 just for the music alone

disclaimer: i like games that make people butthurt like X-COM, but seriously, 90% of game overs in this game have no mistakes you can see looking back. it's like playing a sierra adventure game where everything is randomized so you can't really memorize any exact solution. that's the difference between pure shit (nethack) and a playable game (adom, for how much of a drama queen the programmer is, is a better game because of it)

But you don't meet high-evade heavily shielded enemies that early. While the Kestrel A is far from the best ship in the game, it's one of the most powerful early game.

Hint: Destroying the helm or engines will eliminate enemy evade. But the helm usually only has one or two hitpoints, so that's much easier to disable.

Then you're not looking hard enough. If you can't make it past sector 2 on normal, you're doing it wrong. Because while luck is a factor, how you micro the battles is by far the most important aspect.

Make sure to use the pause function whenever you need to issue commands. It's bound to spacebar for a reason.

Save up 90 scrap as soon as possible to get that essential second shield.

Missiles and bombs penetrate enemy shields. Bombs also ignore defense drones. Use them on the shield generator for heavily shielded enemies.

Does the enemy have an heavy ion? Consider turning off your shields right as it's about to hit to avoid having them disabled.

Missiles? If you don't have defense drone or cloak, put a few extra points in engines. Then disable life support and put all the power in engines when one has been launched.

I see this game recommended alot. Is it like those indie trail and error games (like gratuitous space battles and defense grid) on steam?

It's more like the old spaceship adventure game where you upgrade your spaceship and finally face the boss, with tons of random events in between.
