We'll last night I got a call from my mother after midnight. Apparently her baby German Shepard had found a opossum in the back yard. So I went out their and there was a 15-20 lb opossum laying on its side. It was wet underneath where the dog had gotten it. I waved my shoe in front of it and nudged its head. It moved and hissed at me. I then went into the house and got a flashlight and two guns. I made my mother hold the light on it (poor visibility) while I aimed a 38special revolver at it. First shot nearly deafened me(always wear protective hearing when using firearms (IMG:[

I then switched out to a 25 handgun and hit it in the body(lower recoil). Opossum started thrashing so I couldn't get another good shot until it stopped moving. Lined up and got it in the head with the next bullet. Proceeded to bury it. Before I get flamed for this let me point out I LOVE ANIMALS!!(3 dogs,3cats and bird) I did not kill the opossum out of spite or malice. I've been hunting for years and was always taught to never let an animal suffer. I captured and released the last opossum that made it into the house but it was uninjured. The puppy had already gotten the underside of the opossum.(couldn't walk, leg seemed to be broken) Leaving it would have condemned it to a slow and likely painful death. (IMG:[
