Ok A large list of tutorials for the community to share, view, review and continue to add to. I have been building this list sporadically for a few years. Every time I have to look something up and I like the tutorials I find, I book mark them and eventually try to organize them.

Some of the links may no longer be active, or may have changed, but it would be quite a task to go and check them all again, and I'm a procrastinator, so yeah.

Not all of the tutorials are just for drawing. Since I am a media artist who dabbles in just everything from Sculpting, to 3D artist I collect tutorials from everything!

I really encourage the Community to really contribute to this list. The best thing is for the list to grow to continue to help other aspiring artist. So I look forward to seeing you all in here and learning.

just wondering what you think about this 2 white remove strategy (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

01: first you need to enable Image/mode/grayscale, then hold alt + ctrl and press 1, and now click del
02:again Image/mode/grayscale, then Select/load selection, click invert then click ok, now go to layer/new fill layer and choice solid color click ok and choice dark

the 2nd choice seems remove only white pix (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Instead of trying to remove the white, you should go over to your layers and Switch the blending mode to Multiply You can then draw on a layer under the "line art" and the colors will show through is a quick example to illustrate.
It was done kind of quickly and with my mouse cause I don't have my tablet hooked up.Attached Image

.. um no, its far from perfect. To start You have the Color information to worry about. If you screw up and toss it out, you'll end up with coloring problems later. So discarding the color info is a really bad idea and not a step that anyone needs to take.

A better solution to to getting a gray scale image to manipulate the line art is to go Image > Adjustments > Black & White.
This will make the selected layer/image/selection a gray scale by default, and even has features to lean it toward a specific hue.
And from there a Manipulation of the Levels or Bright and Contrast panels will help you control the aliasing of the lines.

With a multiply lend mode, you don't lose any pixel information or any pixels at all. When coloring under the layer, the pixels that are not 100% black will take on the color at a darker value that is placed under it.
So I'm not sure why you are thinking you are losing any pix at all. I mean cause your not losing anything.

I f you think you really need strict black and white, absolutely no anti-aliasing, the picture(s) will come out jagged.
Although if that is a look you want, that is fine. but it is only so appealing.
Since I am talking about super stark contrast here. I guess I should mention that if you want can use Image > Adjustment > Threshold. and that would get you just the two colors, black and white. But I really don't recommend that.

i was mean, multiply only keep black pix, and most of the manga have grey, check any manga for example, most of the pixel its grey not black, so if you color it, you will lose useful pix.
my trick will keep all pix except white, i made 2 pic for you, check your pm box (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

For the purposes of coloring, you want the gray pixels to take on the underlying color, not be gray. Bring up Manga as an example doesn't really work. Considering the use of tones is a largely different concept and method adding value.
But even with tones. gray is an integral part to getting the look you want.

With your methods, your wiping out things that you don't want to normally wipe out. If you are taking toned manga and coloring it, the you method still doesn't work all that well, It would require a massive cleanup attempt before even considering color. And then you come back to step one of this discussion after the cleanup.

Either way man, you and I both seem to be set in our methods, and obviously we aren't interested in changing. I hope that yours continues to work for you. I already know mine works and will continue to work for me.

i dont want to agruing to you, you probable color lots of pic, but you wrong.
If you do my idea, almost all grey pix its interlaced, if you do your idea, all grey you will lose, and you will need effect to add it back, with my idea you don't need that, cause grey + color will mix (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) and make good 3d effect

Moving on From this derailment.

A friend linked this to me last night, and since it is fresh in my mind, I figured I had best place it here in Tutorial Time.
The artist Patrick Brown Go through his basic process of drawing, inking and coloring an image in photoshop.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtHCLWmPpLg

I would advise you guys subscribe to his channel and watch him on dA just to see the awesome works he continues to churn out.

Squee!
It looks like this thread is building in popularity, so lets get the ball rolling

This next one is from dA.
its an oldy, but a goody

This tutorial is painfully simple considering how effective I, and many of my cohorts on other art forums, have found it to be.
[shadowumbre.deviantart.com] This Cloud Tutorial by ShadowUmbre is super simple to follow, has a couple variations of different clouds and different situations. Anyone digital painting a background that has clouds in it will find this tutorial an amazing asset
Enjoy
