Humanitarian Daily Ration.
These are very similar to MREs, some of the components are MRE components, so the pieces variably say "Food Gift From The People Of The United States Of America and "Thank you for your service".
They can be found online for $5 shipped and are about 2,100 calories. Unlike MREs, which have very few vegetarian options, all of the entrees are vegetarian, and they sounded really good, which is why I wanted to try them.

Entrees: Bean Salad, Barley Stew, Beans & Rice in Tomato Sauce, Herb Rice, Lentil Stew, Brown & Wild Rice with Lentils, Red Beans & Rice, Yellow Rice, Peas in Tomato Sauce, Rice with Beans, Lentils & Vegetables, Rice & Vegetables in Sauce, Pasta in Tomato Sauce, Beans with Potatoes.
Would I recommend them? Unfortunately, not really. If I could just get a bulk pack of the entrees in retort pouches, that would be perfect. They are indeed good. Unfortunately, the full HDR has too much cheap white flour, vegetable oil & sugar filler. Most of the calories are from: Shortbread Cookie (large; 290 calories), Oatmeal Cookie (240 calories), Vegetable Crackers (vegetables not included; 170 calories), Pop Tarts (420 calories), MRE Peanut Butter (120 calories; added sugar), MRE Strawberry Jam (70 calories; all sugar).
There's something ironic about giving civilians in a refugee camp or soldiers in a war zone pop tarts advertising a [
