There's a lot of estocs hangning around in my inventory just in case I decide to switch from the one I'm using.
However, I did some calculations regarding the probability of getting certain outcomes regarding upgrades.
I'm lousy at math so I may be wrong but it seems to me that my main weapon; the
Magnificent Shocking Estoc of the Illithid,
which has 5 swift strikes and 4 butchers had a probability of 0,64% of getting that outcome. I did the calculation by using
(among other things) variations of this query; [
www.wolframalpha.com]
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=9+dice+3+facesIt went something like this; starting from 0 upgrades on the estoc:
0,1024333333333333333... (10,24333...%) chance to get 5x swift strikes
after that there's 0,0625 (6,25%) chance to get 4 butchers
In other words, there's 0,1024333333333333333 * 0,0625 = 0,006402083333333 = 0,64% chance to get 5x swift strikes + 4x butchers
If it's true the probability is that low, I wouldn't even bother upgrading the rest of the estocs I've got
since most likely none of them would get 5 swift strikes. Here's a list of the estocs I've got;
Exquisite Ethereal Estoc of the BansheeExquisite Ethereal Estoc of the BattlecasterExquisite Demonic Estoc of the IllithidExquisite Ethereal Estoc of SlaughterMagnificent Hallowed Estoc of the Vampirebtw anyone else here notice some funny similarities between these two?;
Exquisite Demonic Estoc of the Illithid Legendary Demonic Estoc of the Illithid (not mine)
& here's some brain farts for the one's who don't know a lot about swift strikes.
The obvious question of course is why I would need swift strikes so badly?
First of all, I've got a light armor build which explains a lot. But there's more;
by using skillchip's writings on the subject matter as reference, I did some calculations.
My actions speed is 400 (actually its ~266,6 x haste ) which makes my action time reach the floor of 100.
The 5x swift strikes (+10,96%) makes my action time go down even further to become ~79,94. , breaking the action time floor.
And since slow, magnet, (poison?) and freezing limbs become less effective as the monster reach higher power levels,
having faster action times becomes more relevant if one's using those spells. Monsters with action speed at ~400 and beyond
have action times at 100 (the minimum) but since my action time is at ~79,94, I'll always be faster than the monsters no matter how high the monster's power levels are.
There's an other benefit to having a lot of swift strikes that I've noticed; all status effects that proc on monsters "last longer";
(this includes penetrated armor, bleeding wound, stunned, all deprecating spells, all status effects from spells etc.).
However, supportive spells such as regen etc. won't "last longer" no matter how many swift strikes one has got.
