I like the changes so far. Item world has a fun factor now, and the bonuses are kind of like the Specialists from the mode's namesake. Are there any plans to allow these bonuses to be traded/altered with the Forge?

I just completed a 1st level in IW on an Exquisite Ethereal Mace, very nice.

Separately, this patch has really diminished my drive to reach Lvl 220 so that I could finally get lots of school gril trophies to trade for items which would either be usable or have a decent salable value.

I wouldn't count on too much from that anyway.

Trophies drop 100% of the time except in Arena challenges higher than The Trio and the Tree where the chance is a static 10% (except in the final round where it is once again 100%).

So you'll average 5 @220, 240 & 260, 10 @ 280 and 15 @ 300 (not counting final round) but that's a lot of work for a pretty chancy payoff.
