Can be quite a bit to wrap your head around, with physical vs. magical (and physical with magical damage type), and skill vs. spell (look for "uses" vs. "casts"), and how both are separate from each other.

monster skills are treated as spells for the purposes of hit tables. whether they're physical or magical only affects whether they go to the parry check (physical "skills") or the resist/absorb check (magical "spells")
a lot of mechanics are poorly described by both the game and the players themselves and that's honestly not surprising that people expect things to work a certain way when they don't

I wonder. If Tenboro made the whole game logic code public, would it kill the fun for people? For me the fact that I know I'd be dancing to the tune of such a contraption is enough to kill it.

There's no difference between 'no open code' and '40k lines of codes without any reference' (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

QUOTE(varst @ May 20 2012, 10:59) There's no difference between 'no open code' and '40k lines of codes without any reference' (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) What do you mean 'reference'? The code speaks for itself, why would you want to waste time to write an echo of what it does, suitable only for inferior minds that can't grasp the code itself and will be misguided by simplifications? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) That's true only when you don't need to share the code or it's a short program. Imagine when you want to find a particular recipe in a 400-page cookbook without table of contents. Nobody would like to use that book (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Start anywhere, and follow the labyrinth, and you'll find what you're looking for quickly.

But if you're thrown into the middle of the maze, blind, can you find the way out before you die? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Similarly, everyone enjoys untangling boxes of Christmas lights or jumbled balls of twine or string. That's not an unproductive waste of time when someone could've just laid them out neatly, right?

So... INT raises chances of physical skill landing on traget?

Nope. How monster skills work is that if the spell is physical, it uses DEX/STR as parameters, much like the only magical monster (elemental) uses INT/WIS as damage parameters. All player spells use INT/WIS because they all deal magical damage. Players do not have spells that work in such a way that use DEX/STR even though we've asked for such, before the skills system came in. As an aside, the skills system implemented was a redo of the "spirit attack" that hasn't been viable ever since we switched to the new monster system (which had health pools much larger, which made the spirit attack either too weak or too overkill) and the current staggered percentage chunk-based use system works out wonderfully since it no longer depends on your spirit points to be used. Have the drop rates been lowered for Random Encounters? Getting only 1 pot from 10 monsters makes me sad. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

So monster DEXskill accuracy = average attack accuracy (from DEX/AGI)?

It was made by my grandma in the 50s, and it's actually made from pages of weekly cooking magazines put together in a book cover. It's handier than it sounds.

Yeah, I'm feeling like I need to dig through the forums and find out what the next "OP, going to get nerfed soon" thing is that everyone else knows about, lol..
