Another necro'd thread, but considering the current state of affairs around here, this one in particular is one that I really don't mind being brought back to life.

I'm still thoroughly amazed that anyone doesn't understand why I didn't want to bother explaining anything about the galleries thing. For now, let's never mind the fact that if you search the forum for a few measly minutes, you could pretty easily find your way back to the source of why it's happened in the first place all on your own. I'll admit there isn't much concrete information to go on, but you'd think people would realize that if something is mysteriously omitted from all the obvious guide threads and wiki pages, maybe it's because the site admin actually had a reason not to want it to be public knowledge.

Here's the issue I can't get past: I've been answering PMs on the subject for years now, and the information never completely disperses. For the dozens of people who were bright enough to do a little Internet sleuthing and discover the answer for themselves, or at least followed the trail back to someone like me who's been around long enough to remember why it's a thing in the first place, there are still these countless more clueless dopes who blindly follow the crowd after hearing one stupid unfounded rumor or another. They don't care that they're shitting all over the forum, and certainly aren't smart enough to stop and think, "If this porn site, like so many others, is driven by an active userbase, why would they deliberately take away a bunch of popular content and upset such a large portion of that userbase?"

Tenboro can be a dick at times, but he's not stupid. He wouldn't lock newbies out of access to content that was previously freely available as some kind of joke or forum reputation tie-in. Anonymous users equal page impressions, which equal ad revenue. But people can't transfer the blood back out of their boner long enough to power their brain to this conclusion. It's all "Herp derp, dunno why my favorite galleries keep disappearing, I guess he's just a jerk who doesn't like us anonymous users."

I'll say it again: I can help you, but not like this. Show you have a sliver of patience and sense. PM me sometime next week at the earliest. I'll start answering them when the flooding starts to recede, maybe sooner if my patience returns.

That little Report button is certainly coming in handy for actual rule-breakers. It kind of feels like using a sponge to clean up after a typhoon, but it's something.

Admittedly, we do seem to have a slightly better class of spam-posters these days. Sure, they still flood the boards, but they're not all making new threads, or posting two-word replies that have little to do with the topic at all. Is it possible things are getting better? Or did the Southeast Asian crowd who can't speak English just set the bar really low?
