1. Melee is too op with "skills"

As a melee I can hereby inform you that personally I prefer slapping enemies in Spirit mode over using skills that cost Overcharge. "OP Skills" are only viable in RoB. And yes, they hit for quite a lot, especially DW-combo ones, almost as hard as holy-mage Banish spam vs FSM. Owait~
2. Power gems.
Dude.
3. HP/MP/SP regen weapons.
Seriously?
Vampire - not viable. Unreliable proc (25%, seriously?) that provides the wielder with two times less healing that Regen2 does every single turn. Lolz.
Illithid - not viable from my POV. If you're out of mana in arena AND you already used up all your mana potions - you are doing it wrong. Even I can make it to 50/100 Schoolgirl run on IWBTH (typical exp farm) using 3-4 pots out of 12 available.
Banshee - Dude. Duuuude...
4. Sacrificing playing speed "slightly" for the cost of...
Slightly, guise. Slightly.
I personally had to whack FSM 280+ times when I was melee, Normal version. Same version, Holy mage, next to zero proficiencies: 70+ Banish casts.
D00de.
5. ...mitigation.

I have a set of crappy phases as a holy mage. I also have my decent set of shadies as a 2H melee. I must state that my Cloth Proficiency pretty much sucks.
My mage set phys. mitigation equals 39.9%
My 2H set phys. mitigation equals 47.8%
My Kevlar full-Protection set mitigation equals 57.9%
Dude?
6. Rapid use 100% acc skills
...which are on 10 turns CD, but who cares?
But still, I have to admit that these skills are indeed very powerful.
7. This must be quoted completely: "...insta-kill skills under cetain conditions regardless of enemy health, Penetrated Armor, Stun, massive Bleed damage, tank mitigation, and even huge amounts of Block should you choose shield armor and/or a shield".
Insta-kills: TEACH ME, SENSEI, I AM IN DIRE NEED OF THIS MASTERY!
ARP, Stun, Bleed: All-in-one. All you need is Fine Estoc-designed Mace of Scythery. And an Ethereal one, please. Yeah, and a 0.5 Cola. Thank you.
Tank mitigation: read above
Huge amounts of block: ...excuse me, Sir, may I have the Fine One-handed Estoc-designed Mace of Scythery instead please? And another Cola please.
8. Mages getting nerfed, AOE getting revamped.
*switches to Naga-type laughter*: A-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA A-A-A-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA~

Just my view.

Mages generally are better at lower difficulty, when they can 1-2 shot everything and progress much faster than melees.
However, melees do have an advantage; while mages have to rely on those mana potions for survival, melees don't have that limit. Thus melees are much better playing in more difficult arenas.

What you and Hito said can be true at the same time;

Melee's skill did get better compared to mages' spells when you're comparing that in high difficulties.
First of all you don't miss; second, there's useul proc; and finally, you don't need mana to use your skills.

However, you're also correct that melee's too slow when playing in normal difficulty.
And you don't need that much mitigation when playing in normal.

Am I doing it wrong, too low a level to make it work, or does my equipment just suck? I'm level 94 and can't get to round 20 on Hell most of the time.

Though I think it's better to pick a slaughter mace/scythe, yours won't be a great problem.

Pick more plate of protection with high physical mitigation to start.
Protection suffix is much better at your level.

I do agree shatter strike is good, but still you need to get OC, and that can be quite annoying...(as I recently tried some meleeing)

It's like a vintage car; the engine fails every 5 minutes, and you need 10 minutes to restart the engine.
I like using those OC as damage boost though.

All OC tanks to 280% make it pretty easy to maintain the charge for chaining the skill every 10 turns. If there were a hotkey, it would make melee faster than mage even on low difficulties.

I've seen this before, except it was Ret versus FDK and the entire discussion is still on going with eternal lists of pro's and con's on both sides, and i'm fairly sure it will never ever stop.

Point being there's benefits and losses to both sides, pick whatever works, work with it, stop saying it doesn't work. (though granted, the OC +damage bonus removal is the worst imo)
