[X] My Assistant

I'm looking for a person who can proofread and help translate some random manga I'll be working on. But, before we get into that, I suppose I should give out my info and experience so no one goes in blind.

I'm somewhat experienced in Japanese (2 year education), and have a pretty decent grasp of the grammar structure. This is, in part, thanks to my watching subbed anime and my education (obviously). I do use Machine Translators, but mostly for phrases and Kanji (my mortal nemesis). Other than that, I rely on what I have learned. I'm pretty much doing this to build up my knowledge of the Japanese language.

I would like a person who can fluently speak/read Japanese to assist me. Mostly proofreading, of course. In return, I could offer up my services as an editor for any works you need help with (I've found that I'm quite decent at it). If you need proof of my capabilities, I could post a link on one of the manga I've edited. I have only a few stipulations: No guro, no loli (ambiguously loli is fine, I guess), and no tentacles (because ewww). I'm also good as a grammar and spellchecker. If there's one thing I'm confident in, it's my grasp of the English language.

Any assistance would be great. Currently translating a chapter from "Erosuke", and would like some help.

I'm hardly native-level fluent, but I can pretty well handle the greater part of most (raw) mangas I pick up. I've been reading raw manga for at least a year now, and before that I also watched plenty of subbed anime, in addition to a couple years of Japanese classes, so it's like I'm just a little further down the road you're on. =P

Well, my schedule is cleared up. Would you still be willing to take on some projects I have? Also, I'd be willing to edit in any translations you might have.

Take on? I thought I was just signing on to help. =P Also, just to get this out of the way, I am indeed a little busy with something else already, so I'm not looking to sign up for anything else for a while (at least a week probably, and quite possibly more).

Don't mistake me, I don't mind queries as to my interest in (or availability for) random projects (maybe a joint effort even?), but my intention here was to help you figure out how to translate difficult lines, proofread (TLC) your finished script against the raw if you need it, that sort of thing. If you work on translating those projects you have, I'll be perfectly happy to help you figure out random lines. =) But as for me, as I said, I'm currently busy. =/

As for offering to edit, there are certainly a few hentai I've wanted to see translated...not entirely sure some of them haven't been in the interval, but I've got a good number of ideas for...sometime. But, again, not just now. =(

"Take on" wasn't the proper phrase I guess. What you just said that you would do is what I was asking of you in the first place. So, I was basically asking for help.

I like the 'help me with this random line' concept in this thread. Translators who work alone (I assume some work in teams?) certainly would benefit from such a resource. There are times when I'm translating and I stumble across something that's maybe like a reference to some obscure game or Japanese idiom or saying or 2ch meme and it takes me ages to find out on Google what's what. Or maybe just sometimes you just need a second opinion. Either way, something like PeopleDon'tDanceNoMore's thread on the Translation Requests board is the right idea, as long as people don't abuse it and basically get others to translate whole chunks of manga. I think it would help get more manga and doujin translated.

Just use PeopleDon'tDanceNoMore's thread for now (or someone can make a proper thread to be stickied). I'll check maybe once in a while to see if I can help.

I suppose people can come here to make requests in regards to my editing skills. I won't ask for any payment or reward, as credits have almost no use to me.
