QUOTE(Draugarnor94 @ Sep 28 2021, 15:16) ![*](style_images/ambience/post_snapback.gif) But yea, she got a dialect / accent where she usually end's almost sentences with the word "zura (ずら)". edit: Shizuoka dialect, apparently same as "darou"
Nice, I didn't know that. QUOTE(Draugarnor94 @ Sep 28 2021, 15:16) ![*](style_images/ambience/post_snapback.gif) I did not intend to show her peculiarity. I am sorry if it seemed that way, I wanted to rather focus on the text XD Thank you! I'm thinking of doing a non-h Touhou bounty, but every single character there have their own particular way of talking. Frankly, it's very troublesome to keep those intact so I've been wondering what's the consensus among other translators.

I wish I could help on that matter, but many of the Dialects are still unknown for me too. (Honestly zura, darou and desu are the only words from dialects that I know of XD) Also wanted to ask another thing in this room. It is more of a how would be the right term/sentence for it: I have a doujin and the girl that seems not to be thinking clearly tells her friend: "すぐによくなる" (Sugu ni yoku naru)"I will become better" (sexual meaning) Tough I think she wanted to say: "I will get well/recover soon." but I was wondering if there is another way to say that instead of the "Sugu ni yoku naru" This post has been edited by Draugarnor94: Sep 28 2021, 11:19

Something like "I will get good soon."? Or maybe "I'm trying to get better."? The thing is, if the speaker is a female then すぐによくなる usually translates erotically to "It will feel better soon". So if the speaker is a female, "It'd get better soon." should be used instead. It's not perfect, but passable. ================================== Oh hang on, you're trying to spell it in Japanese? Hmm, I don't know. I can't think of a better way to say it than すぐによくなる. ================================== After giving it some more thoughts, the situation is just too specific. The closest I could get, but NOT without changing a lot of things is for her to absentmindedly say something like「イキイキよ、イキまくりよ。」. This post has been edited by amaimono: Sep 28 2021, 16:25

Yes, "I will get good soon" / "I will get well soon" It had been bugging me for a while now how it can be said properly in Japanese. This post has been edited by Draugarnor94: Sep 28 2021, 12:38

What is a good way to phrase this passage? It's the opening series of boxes in a oneshot.
[We're a couple...] [We've done this, and we've done that...] We're even doing that stuff too.]
Is there a nuance I'm missing here?

Maybe make the above line more explicit? "Erm, a-and even more intimate stuff." Looks good otherwise.

Thanks for the feedback amaimono! I got another question about whether there is a subtext i'm missing here. The following are textbox passages that are from a character's dairy, there seems to be a poetic repetition of Taito. I want to try and preserve the story beats as much as possible but I end up basically producing broken english often. [My Neighbor Megumi came back from the beach today...] [Megumi is a really nice/kind person.] [I really don't think I stand a chance against Megumi at all at this rate]
[Sometimes now, I feel just so miserable living like this.]
[I don't Want to make Megumi feel uncomfortable/sad or have my misery spread to (her? that would make things harder?))]
[I want to beat her so badly even in the small things I need some sort of win (over her? for myself?). And be her Equal for once.]
[That's why I'm going to need to the tanning competition this year.]
[To become equals]
[Equality?][To be equal.][To finally be equal]?
thoughts or improvements to grammar?/flow? Edit: I quickly copy and pasted this from my scriptsheet, it's a mess of text (that part wasn't flagged as part of the diary entry). I forgot this part highlighted in bold. My bad! This post has been edited by NewsMedia: Oct 2 2021, 18:16

This is what I've got. Admittedly, the wording could be better, but eh... Whatever I do, Megumi can do it better.
It makes me feel pathetic at times.
If by chance Megumi realized that then went easy on me, it'd only bring (me) more pains.
However insignificant the matter is, I want to win against her and stand as her equal.
Just to be her equal. Also, does it really say that? This suspiciously looks like a typo of 海外 (overseas). "My neighbor Megumi just returned home from overseas." This post has been edited by amaimono: Oct 2 2021, 17:01

QUOTE Also, does it really say that? This suspiciously looks like a typo of 海外 (overseas). "My neighbor Megumi just returned home from overseas." Thanks for helping out flow/grammar! And yes it is the ocean(side), or beach. For context there is a tanning contest going on as a subplot for the main character and tanning by the beach makes them tan better supposedly. There seems to be a lot of repetition of trying to be good enough/equal. ![Attached Image](https://forums.e-hentai.org/uploads/post-193220-1633188744.jpg) This focus on Taito comes up again. Also what is exactly being implied about Okinawa. [Take it easy, occhan]
[I don't see you taking me much of anywhere, with you living off Ramen noodles every day!] (I assume this is what is IMPLIED about eating Somen noodles every day)
[You think I can't afford it?][You think i'm broke?]
[I got cash coming in from Okinawa pretty soon actually!]
[Okinawa.... what?] (this is a coincidence for the other character)
[Is that where you're from?]
... some passages later ...
[What is it with Okinawa?][What do you know about Okinawa?]
(You know what?) I think it's the bad ones who always running south, you know?]
[And it's usually other bad guys who try to get to run south too.]
[Cause there is a lot of money down there...]
[Don't worry about money, this time the plan is perfect]
[I got a real experienced smuggler to be a courier this time]
[He's due back on the 20th, and then I'm taking you to the beach.]
By bad what is being implied here? Evil? weak/poor? low quality? As you can read I didn't EXACTLY translate things because it sounds so jilted and i'm trying to get it flow well in english without rewriting it. This post has been edited by NewsMedia: Oct 2 2021, 17:58

[Take it easy, old man.]
Need more context. Maybe you can post the page?
[Is it about cash?]

[And letting a villain run southward makes one a villain too.]
[This would make us quite a killing.]
[Don't worry, this time the plan is flawless.]
[I had a real pro as the runner.] Depending on the context, "had" may be replaced with "hired".
Is he talking about murdering the listener? Beach should be replaced with sea either way. No apparent issues with the rest. QUOTE By bad what is being implied here? Need more context. Maybe you can post the page? The context is that in the previous page, they were offered to be taken to a nudist beach by the sea. And the speaking character was sorta laughing. Thanks for the feedback too! Is he talking about murdering the listener? Beach should be replaced with sea either way. It's referring to taking them to the beach as previously mentioned on the last page, there is a plot point about going by the sea to get a better tan Here's the short passage: QUOTE [You wanna go to the beach, right?] [I'll take you to a nudist beach.] Also about this part, the context is that they were smugly taunting the other by saying their dairy is a nice read when it went missing: おっちゃん 見損なったぞ ひとの日記 読むなんて! [Don't get the wrong idea from reading my diary!] I'm just kidding around/joking with you/you buy into my jokes/antics too much]? [So... there is something I need to tell you.] なにそれ [What is it?] [That: I need to get/become equal That's it.]?? Seems random. I have no clue. QUOTE It's referring to taking them to the beach as previously mentioned on the last page, there is a plot point about going by the sea to get a better tan I see, go with the original translation then.
[ Old man, I'm disappointed with you. How could you read someone else's diary!?] You think too highly of me.]

Thanks for the input amaimono!. I need some additional thoughts on the final part of this manga, it sounds so weirdly poetic or something at the end. [I was so busy with the tanning contest that my homework/summer assignment was completely blank...] [I was so busy with the tanning contest that I completely forgot to finish my homework....]
[I needed to beg Megumi for help, it was so depressing] [I resorted to needing to ask Megumi to let me copy her homework. I'm so Pathetic...]
[I never had to ask Megumi to do this before] [I can't believe I asked Megumi to show me her homework.]
[If it was me last year, i wouldn't have done it] [I would never have done that last year.] [I wouldn't have stooped so low last year.]
[This is/was all thanks to winning the tanning competition]
[I still didn't finish my Homework, it's still blank (because)]
[I keep blushing whenever I read through my Diary...]
[Only the skin I tanned in Occhan's garden....] [Only the tan I got from Occhan's garden is able to...]
Still remains completely tanned]? [...Is good enough]? [...satisfy me enough.]

Couldn't think of a better way to deal with まっ白 and まっくろ, so it still looks very ugly at the moment. Blame the author.QUOTE 日焼け大会に かまけてたら 宿題はまっ白 [s][I was so busy with the tanning contest that my homework/summer assignment is at 0%...]
[I went down to my knees and begged Megumi to let me copy her homework.]
Assuming the following sentences are in succession...QUOTE [My homework is still at 0%, but...]
[Only the diary which makes me blush whenever I reread it...]
[And the tan I got from Occhan's garden...]
No apparent issues with the rest.
==========================
Alright, now that I've got more time to think about it, you can go with: [I was so busy with the tanning contest that the pages of my homework are pure white.]
[While the pages of my homework are still pure white...] [The diary pages which makes me blush whenever I reread them...] [And my skin, sun-baked in Occhan's garden...] [...Are perfectly dark.]
