I am seviper9, starting out as a translator (freelancer). I did JLPT till N4. Studying for N3 now. But, I am not that good with Kanji yet so I use an electronic dictionary almost all the time.

I did some newbie translations for one piece on orojackson. Apart from that I don't have any experience.

For work, I would prefer the script in text form ('cause Kanji and I am a bit lazy). If the images contain only hiragana or katakana, then it's fine.
I would like to translate works that have consensual sex in them (except extreme or hardcore). Don't want my wife to get creeped out on me. I can always pass incest as cougar or the like. On the same note, don't want the father-daughter ones too.

It's not so much getting a scanner or even 'how' to acquire books. It's having a continual source of income for said books to keep that thing running, and I don't think Patreon supports this type of work.

If you mean "becoming too big until some SJW reports you for copyright violation" then sure, but Patreon is a nice small side income.

In general, when your hentai team (non-artist stuff, just translation or scanning raws) grows too big on Patreon, it's eventual that you'll be reported down for copyright violations. Even though your patrons are completely fine with it up to that point.

Since when scanning group are Patreon based, did I miss something ? I thought it's more a place for donating people creating new art...or at least something genuinely new connected with art.

That's why you don't see them because they get taken down if they become big enough. 5 am (not a scanning team but a translation group) had Patreon but they got taken down too

It stemmed from me. I was commenting on how it's probably difficult to be a scanner in general because you need money to buy more books to scan, and mentioned that I doubt Patreon or similar site would allow someone, like me for example, to take on supporters since I'm not creating content, and then it spiraled to here.
