Gah, don't know if anyone comes to this thread anymore but here goes:

Say, do you guys have anything that works great for anime style art with mouse and keyboard?

I don't know but I think I would be comfortable with something that works like in 3d modeling apps where you can start off with some primitive shapes and manipulate them into the object you want instead of trying to mimic real pen and paper.

I recommend "Manga studio" for my niece and she told me afterward that it is easy and awesome. She work with PS and CD before though.

Thanks! But I think I'll experiment with SAI and see how that goes.

Just watched some videos and I think it might do what I want.

I've been using photoshop for a while, but considering switching to Clip studio paint aka Mangastudio, since I don't like the outlines that I do in Photoshop, they feel too rough... does anyone have an experience with both who can confirm if there is any differences in that regard?

CLIP STUDIO >>>>>>>>>>>> PHOTOSHOP

The outlines are muuuch better and you don't have so many useless tools (that are useful for photo edition). For drawing illustrating I think overall Clip Studio is much better.

I recently bought a license of this from a 50% discount promo. I tried it a little but I didn't have the time back then, so I'm thinking about playing around with it again. I'm interested on basic animation features it has, which looked neat. The pen tools are great as well, especially the pencil tips since it felt like I'm actually drawing with pencil on paper (I meant the output strokes, not the actuall texture I feel on my hands).

I haven't explored the app yet, but I think it's a good app to work on, albeit the plethora of tools I yet need to familiarize myself on.

My tool of choice is Clip Studio Paint.

Photoshop modification tools and brush engine are by far the best, but the actual painting experience is something I really never managed to grasp (I hate having to keep pressing alt every time I want to blend colors, and the inking was kinda atrocious until the release of Kyle T Webster brush sets).

I've been using Krita quite a lot recently (a few pages of my latest comic were made with Krita) and been having a great time. My only issue is that it's still a bit buggy and some commands work quite differently from what I'm used to (the fluid zoom, for example, has to be done with a sub menu with right click).

For 3D refferences I use Blender and Magic Poser on the iPad. Clip Studio Paint has 3D models too, but manipulating them is a bit too convoluted for my tastes.

But in the end, my favorite tools for all my comics and illustrations are the always reliable pentel 0.5 mechanical pencil and good old print paper, which is dirty cheap and is white enough to make a contrast with the pencil.

Other tools are my cheap scanner and a tiny wood ruler.

As for digital painting, I used a cintiq 12wx until last month, I bought an iPad pro recently and it works wonders both as a desk tablet and portable drawing studio.

And that's pretty much it, lol.

If you wanna see the results of my work, just go and check my comics, lol. The one I'll upload next week is the first one I made 100% on the iPad, for those who are curious.

Kinda late,

Medibang Paint for Android

Obviously cramped & lacking, like clone stamp & such, but extremely mobile. Have been using it for a year, still the best for my taste.

I have been using ibisPaint for a few years now on my iPad Pro. Once individual panel illustrations are completed I import them into Comic Life 3 and put the comix together. It has some nice typefaces and the balloons are very workable.Attached Image

Ah, is that what you drew your profile pic with? I always wondered.
Actually you're the reason I stepped up my game.
Another piece of software for more specialized use-cases:
[grafx2.chez.com] Grafx2 is a paint program that's rather suitable for pixel art (up to 256 colors). It's modeled largely after Deluxe Paint and Brilliance for Amiga. It runs on a ton of platforms (Amiga OS, DOS, Windows, Unix/Linux, Haiku). It's free and open source. There's also a port to Android, apparently.
I've used it for my last few profile pictures. Not really too suited for "modern" digital art, but within its niche it's excellent. I use it with my laptop tablet convertible with a stylus a lot, but it was originally designed for mouse/keyboard use.

Adobe only supports Windows and Macintosh versions of Photoshop, but using Wine Photoshop CS4 can run on Linux.
I can run CC 2019 in Wine (although I have to install it on windows and then copy the install folder over and install some stuff via winetricks). Also, CS6 works, including the installer, if you install some software via winetricks:
CODE
winetricks atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 fontsmooth-rgb corefonts

Just tried the android port, seems transparency doesn't work in animation. It'd be awesome once it's ripe more.

Do you mean like a transparent background? or transparent parts of "layers/frames" like GIF's can use to overlay frames on each other?

I don't use the animation mode very much… might look into it.

What colour are you trying to make the background here? The way this program works, one colour can be made to represent the "background colour," but it never uses the checkerboard pattern.

Try making your secondary color selection whatever colour you want to have transparent, and then right clicking the button I circled?

Edit: Not in animation mode in screenshot, I just realized, but hopefully it's relevant anyway. Might come back and fix things up in a little bit.
