True, and I guess it depends on how you want and/or how you can afford to battle.
Having it an auto-cast certainly makes battling easier for me, since i don't have to worry much about re-applying the scroll and i'm constantly watching mana for Cure II anyway.
Don't use Cure if you can help it, and definetly not Cure II.
Cure II heals twice as much as Cure I, but it costs almost three times as much mana.
Regen I and Regen II are far superior in cost effectiveness.
Regen II being the best, lasting 2.5x longer than Regen I and costing 3x more (but also heals 33% more each tick, for a total of about 10% more damage healed per mana).
Regen I being useful when the enemies aren't hitting you so hard, so that Regen II healing too much for it to be worth it's slightly higher cost/turn.
Cure should only be used in emergency to boost up your health so that Regen can take over, or if you are fishing for proficiency gain.
And Regens superiority over cure increases with higher proficiency due to how the formulas look.
http://ehwiki.org/wiki/Spells#Curative_MagicCure I: Health restored = (base_health / 2) * (1 + curative_proficiency /
200)
Regen I: Health restored per turn = ceiling(4.5 * base_health / 100 * (1 + curative_proficiency /
100))
Not only do they increase faster with higher proficiency, due to it being divided by 100 instead of 200, but higher proficiency also means their duration increases, meaning that Regen both increase amount of healed per tick and the amount of ticks.
