Impressive. When the website first started out, did you expect it to grow to the size that it has today? When a new doujin comes out, this is the website where it first becomes available. I've often wondered what is it that attracts people from all over the world to first come and post their images onto the galleries on this site and not other websites.

Probably the bounty board rewards and GP gained from posting a new gallery for most people

56K? Do you get enough in donations (etc...) to at least break even from that cost?? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Between ads, donations and Adopt-a-Server, we're doing pretty good. Not to the point where I'm considering quitting my day job - nor was the site ever set up as a money making scheme - but we do cover the running costs and have enough left over to get new servers and supporting hardware when necessary.

(And if we didn't, the site would be slow as ass and no one would visit in the first place.)

QUOTE(Hairs' Fan @ Sep 20 2011, 02:42) *
Thanks for the description, that was interesting. I understood most of the relationship between servers except for the forum: why is it connected as a requester to the HV and the web cluster ?

It's not a strong relationship, but both the PWC and HV do read some data from the forum.

QUOTE(Hairs' Fan @ Sep 20 2011, 02:42) *
Also, there are more In traffic than Out traffic in most of the bandwidth graphs. Shouldn't it be the opposite ?

The traffic is measured on the switch ports, so "in" on the switch port is "out" from the server.

To the point where it is today? No, not really. I suppose at least one of the reasons people do post stuff here is that it's one of the few sites that properly credit people for doing so, in a (mostly) fair and (mostly) balanced way.

EH has certainly came a long way if this is the case now. I remember reading some of your older posts saying the site was barely cutting it in terms of server costs.

This reminds me of a question I've had for a while but felt was too inappropriate to ask. Does any of your co-workers/friends know that you're the admin/creator of one of the most comprehensive, if not the most comprehensive hentai site on the interwebs? Or do you prefer to, like many others, keep your internet persona hidden from your day-to-day life? I realize this question is a tad too personal hence I haven't asked it until now, so feel free to not answer it if you're uncomfortable with it.

I'm actually in the middle of that empty rectangular space between the main DB, replicas, and Archiver. You know, that "Ghost in the Machine" and all kinda thing. Either way, neato. Now you have a link you can spam to people who ask in the future. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Indeed. How did you design the social aspects of the site?

What's more impressive is you couldn't fit all that hardware in a single 72U server rack.

That's a lot of equipment folks

OK!, As long we keep co-operating with you, you can afford for more servers, and it's obvious!, for more content, and more load to handle, before these end up KAPUT!

Silly me, I forgot you were not using my cheap host provider that doesn't even provide basic monitoring tools. Thanks for the answers (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I just realized how miniscule my simple and puny wordpress site is compared to EH...
This is quite a feat as a hobby for someone having a day job....
Good work dude...
And thank for putting it up too...

And you realize how pathetic sites like Fakku are, where Jacob can barely even keep it from crashing and having massive downtime and data loss. And it seems he uses all the revenue to fly around the country and stroke his ego instead of actually doing anything constructive.

I rarely check those stats anymore. But if you want to know, we just passed Switzerland (#96).
