The toys were fucking hideous. The new show is much cuter and a more culturally relevant toy commercial.

And yes, I usually tend to think that most everyone here is twelve years old.

Why in my name would anyone base their approval of a show on toys marketed to children? That's just insane.

yeah, well duh, things change, the original Doctor Who was in black and white and if I recall correctly only about 15 minutes long, typically featuring foes that scared children, where as now he's just a plucky funny man, facing the same old challenges with only two foes that are actually terrifying. (I still don't blink near angels, never)

Also, for everyone's information, I love Doctor who, and David Tennant is the man.

As sickeningly powerful a force as marketing can be, I think once in a great while it's possible for the horrors of capitalism and greed to unwittingly create a product that is actually of some aesthetic or intellectual value. For all the piles of obnoxious shit that get sprayed at us from our TV-tubes, once in a blue moon, someone with actual talent and love of storytelling will by chance become involved in creating television shows, movies, or other shit-strewn media. It's rare, but it happens.
