But i did see another side of some of the main posters in this thread, who i have come to love for their contributions here. (I haven't posted much, but i am a regular lurker.) I still love you guys but it's kinda creeping me out.
Just a friendly advice: when you decide to like someone, then do it for what he/she is truly, not by ideal expectation.
So...tangentially related, this, but its relevant enough that I'm posting it, because it put a bit of a smile on my face. Anyway, was watching Supernatural, and...well, there's a box. A moderatly important box, with a particular symbol on it. Speaking vaguely, because spoilers and all that. The symbol'd shown up before, but it was JUST different enough that it didn't quite click. On the box, though...well...let's just look at the box:
Those who remain confused - Picture that star emblem done in magenta, with smaller stars around it.
Questions presented: One, am I the only one who sees it? Two...is this old news that I'm just catching up on, and everyone else is just "Oh, yeah, of course Twilight's cutie mark looks like an actual occult symbol." If so, please ignore this. Hell, feel free to mock the guy who showed up late to the party, if you'd like.
Oh, and just getting this out of the way; I'm only noticeing that the same symbol was used, presumably independently. Not argueing for it having any deeper connection.
The fanfic authors, on the other hand, might well have a field day...

For me, the star symbol is mostly associated with actual starts. Like, look up at night outside, those. But i think in western culture (don't know much about others) stars are always at least vaguely connected to magic or occult. There are of course more specific connections, using specific star symbols, but i don't think any of those are implicated. It's just the vague reference to magic, plus maybe their own canon they are building. And of course starts are pretty (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
So I've come to the startling revelation that not only do I not like the idea of alicorn Twilight, I out right HATE HER. I can not think about the show without the idea of her becoming an alicorn being permanent lodging in my think skillet and burning into an ugly blackened mass of sick. At first I was just like "God that's a dumb idea," now I'm like, legitimately pissed off about it. It feels like something sacred is being taken from me. And Lauren Faust's tweets that Twilight becoming an alicorn are completely against what she envisioned for the show don't help at all.
I would feel better if I had been told that this was a demand from Hasbro higher ups, rather than the new writers for the show coming up with it themselves. Mostly because it sounds like a damn fanfic, of which there are HUNDREDS and there have been since season 1. Twilight becoming an alicorn is a predictable idea, and I'm thinking that's what's upsetting me the most. This show has surprised me, and continued to do so, but this is so damn predictable it hurts.

It was, in fact.
Much like Cadance. And the train. And the hot air balloon. And Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. And not having Applejack's signature knocking down apple technique being ramming trees with her head.
I can't be arsed to dig up a link, but about half a year ago, one of the staff members posted anonymously about certain things that were going to happen, mostly in a "we don't want to but they are making us" kind of way. They were: 1. Twilight becomes an alicorn, 2. Derpy gets silently phased out, and 3. There will be a 4th season. All three are pretty much confirmed by now, so his/her assessment that 1 and 2 were demands from Hasbro is quite plausible.

A shame...Applejack using her head to knock apples out of trees would have explained so much about her.
Oh, and I'm fairly sure this is what you were talking about. Don't have the original link, but have a picture -
Its a sticky thing, really. Granted, I'm in the camp that likes the idea of alicorn Twilight, but otherwise...lack of Derpy does piss me off. And giving the marketing department priority over the creative department has never ended well (see Marvel Comics in the '90's). Of course, that just makes the Derpy issue even more perplexing, since...well, it seems her toys tend to sell rather well.

Ah, well then, I'm probably done then. That's three things right there that just shouldn't happen and frankly I hope the fandom implodes on itself, the toys stop selling and the Hub falls apart.

Not to be nit-picky, but...okay, point one people can disagree about, at least taken at face value without the meddling aspect. Point two, of course, people can agree is a load of PC rubbish. Because god forbid some idiot is offended about a reference they don't understand. I recall someone complaining about an NPC in WoW called "The Gimp" in reference to Pulp Fiction, and some moron thought it was insensitive to the handicapped.
But...okay, I can't understand why Hasbro mandating a fourth season would be bad. Yes, if they twist things and make it blatantly about shilling new toys, instead of it being a good show that, oh look, it has toys people can buy, that would be bad. But by itself...how dare they produce more episodes of something which has, to this point, been generally amusing? Those...bastards? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Because the whole series has been in a fuckin' spiral since season 2? I remember being really hyped about every new episode of season one and the 2 premier. I didn't watch a SINGLE episode of season 2 until the 3 premier started getting hyped, and I didn't watch the S3 premier until two weeks after it aired. Basically the show is very quickly becoming less impressive as time goes on and the fandom is basically divided 50/50 on alicorn Twilight's existence. If the show ended with her becoming a princess then it's cool, but by going on to another season we're most likely, based on past events, going to see more downward spiraling stories, and a chunk of the fanbase is simply going to fall off altogether because of the whole alicorn deal.
tl;dr, Hasbro should have quit while they were ahead and, as I should have expected, will probably drive the show straight into the ground and beyond.
On the plus side the comics probably won't suck too much, and if we get lucky they might become an alternate continuity devoid of alicorn Twilight altogether. (Fat chance)

Yeah...except the code is still about, and it was, by their own account, nearly done. And someone just happened to resign and distace themselves from "Mane6" after the cease and desist was issued to "Mane6." And they made quite a big deal about how they were no longer associated. I do so wonder if there might not be something afoot there.
Failing that...right, setting aside the alicorn Twilight issue, I think everyone can agree that for this, Hasbro must be punished. I'm currently thinking we take some male draft horses, paint them bright red, and then introduce them to Hasbro's legal department...biblically. It seems like it would be...I can never remember, would that actually be ironic, or just what people call ironic these days?
Yep, Hasbro is now slowly killing off the main reason that FiM was so successful. It's like they don't realize that bronies were the ones that got the show where it is now with all the internet content and all the monies we spent on the related merchandise. Who honestly thinks that the show would be on a fourth season right now if bronies didn't exist?
Hasbro has a habit of attacking it's fans. A G.I. site I used to frequent had to change their logo due to a C&D from Hasbro. I don't think that logo was going to hurt the big bad Hasbro in any way.
