They need this to set up for season four, wherein the pets turn out to be the force behind all of the recent evil. It'll be brilliant. They've got the demon rabbit, the turtle-copter, the murderous cat, the toothless alligator, the unnervingly smart owl, and...the...dog.

Huh...Applejack's pet is the least impressive of the bunch. Wonder if we should read anything into that?
