why are you living with your little sister?

I also live with my mom and her boyfriend, I'm 20 and can't find a damn job in my town, I'm too broke to afford college, but too rich to get good grants, so I'm stuck here.

It makes no sense to me how the creator of My Little Pony doesn't understand why her show appeals to older guys. She basically copied the Azumanga Daioh formula (now quite popular in Japanese animation), which literally means it's aimed at older dudes.

Step 1: Get a group of cute females. Make sure the cuteness really shows off.
Step 2: Excluding the first episode, remove any plot.
Step 3: Have each of the characters exhibit the following traits:

a ) The intelligent transfer character (Chiyo | Twilight)
b ) The shy character who excels at random things (Sakaki | Fluttersy)
c ) The space cadet who becomes the life of the show (Osaka | Pinky Pie)
d ) Cares about appearances, and is somewhat intelligent (Yomi | Rarity)
e ) Sports Girl, maybe lesbian (Kagura | Rainbow Dash)
f ) Character Noah really doesn't care about, who tries to bite more than she can chew (Tomo | Applejack)

Step 4: As few guys as possible
Step 5: You know the part about it being cute? Double that.
Step 6: Everyone is best friends forever.
Step 7: Reference things younger kids could never understand.

So, I'm not surprised the main audience is older dudes. Though I truly hope no one is making porn of this stuff, as that would be gross.

Hmmm... I've seen azumanga daioh twice and I agree with your character comparisons, except Chiyo doesn't really come off as Twilight. Twilight is quite the leader and is pretty assertive while Chiyo was always aiming to please others and fit in. Not to mention that Chiyo was usually scared of tense situations (her car phobia still makes me lol). Other than that I think you got the formula quite right. Wow its been a while since I've thought about Azumanga Daioh.
