Villains are just as guilty with their own flashy special attacks.

Shouting names is the stylization of a practice from budo where you shout in order to disrupt or intimidate your opponent as you attack. Its most visible in kendo where you shout the name of the target you're attacking at the exact moment you make contact.

Interesting... Now I know. Not that this will ever help me in real life, but its still interesting knowledge.

I guess it might somehow tie into the infamous 'war cry' that they have us shout at the top of our lungs in boot camp. Though that was more geared towards psychological warfare on the enemy...

Methinks I should do some research into this.

P.S. I really hated my war cry, it hurt my throat after.

In Tae Kwon Do, they have a word for it which I forget, but we were instructed that if we shout a strong "Kyaah!" or something similar while punching, kicking or whatever, it would actually make us hit harder. I guess it's because if you shout hard, your diaphragm contracts and your muscles kind of instinctively tense up.

Anyway, a good angry shout can make you feel more powerful sometimes. Maybe that's enough.

Could be why in boxing (and muay thai) they instruct you to exhale on each strike. It really does work. It's all about breathing.

For that matter, any anime show without giant mechs, if they fight they call their attacks like that constantly.

I fucking hate it. I mean, I get that it's in reference to kiai, but it's still the stupidest garbage ever.

Well, minus G Gundam which was kinda meant to be super-robot(ish) in the fight scenes, the other Gundams don't do it.

They shout out their attacks because anime is made for children, and as a child you can't throw fireballs or whatever, but you can shout out dumb shit and pretend you do.

I had a good friend recommend me that anime, but besides The Walking Dead I've sworn off zombie stuff. There is absolutely no way that zombies could happen (unless you're religious or stupid) and I can only take an interest in the fiction if the story itself is good, but most zombie stuff is pretty badly written.

Zombieism is a state of lacking control over oneself and ones instincts, usually caused by brain damage.
Some forms of retardation would, by that definition, be zombiism.
