Prob more the latter. A lot of original titles can get cancelled either due to low ratings or low viewership.
With remakes you're more likely to get viewers solely from the previous existing fanbase.
I think there are plenty of good writers/animators who don't many chances because the mainstream market is so competitive.

The manga version by Koume Keito right? Think it always had nipples. Or did the US edition actually have enhancements?
