Eh, I won't go that far, since the commitment and practice necessary is especially daunting. However, people shouldn't have gone apeshit crazy over them, either.

Guitar Hero peaked at #2. The first one had a great soundtrack, though, and I enjoyed the goofy Rock The 80's expansion.

I agree that people shouldn't completely lose their shit and think GH and similar music games are the best thing ever, but haters who just yell "go play a real guitar" need to chill out too. I enjoyed GH because I liked a lot of the music, and trying to play that stuff on guitar for real is A LOT harder and takes much longer. Not owning a real working guitar is sort of limiting as well.

I'm also aware that I was never actually "playing" a song when I played GH. I know it's a game, I'm not an idiot. I never got into rhythm games before that because I'm too uncoordinated for DDR. Not to mention DDR usually has songs I find obnoxious. So, for me GH was a nice window into the unfamiliar genre of music/rhythm games.
