That's essentially a crash diet and most nutritionists would definitely disagree with that tactic. The short term gain will be completely crushed in the long term when only a few slip ups, maybe during holidays, puts that weight right back on.
Besides that, if you're still eating crap food, even if it's at a half amount, you still don't get to do your body any favors in the energy department. It's just a sick joke that the stuff that's the worst for you is the cheapest thing to buy.
